Spinoff- Textra or Hangouts (with the new update)? What's your medicine?

So I'm a huge textra advocate. Long time user. Been using it exclusively as it has to me been the best texting app out there. I know a lot of people use and praise hangouts and it seems on par with textra.

For those that have used both, what are your pitches for one over the other?

Haven't used it on my current device, but Textra always seemed to have trouble with SwiftKey back when I used it.

I'm a big Hangouts fan, at least of the non-texting capabilities. I try to use SMS as little as possible and really wish there was a standard, data-based messaging protocol. It would become the new email if that happened. Unfortunately, Apple has no reason to open up their platform , and most iPhone users don't want to use hangouts unless some Android user forces them.

Hangouts for now. Hopefully with this update, they will update the app more often. Lately I've been able to get a few iPhone friends to download Hangouts since you can use it with the phone, Chrome app, through GMail/Inbox, etc. Hopefully they add the functions from Google Messenger (Fast scrolling, Contact colors, etc.) soon

MySMS free version. Only because it works perfectly on my desktop unlike a lot of the other similar apps that I've tried.

I only use Hangouts to text back and forth with my kids because their phones don't have cell service.

i used to be. hangouts is inevitable. just go ahead & make the move now.

v4 that just came out is solid but you'll give up all the control of coloring your response 'bubbles' and shite.

hangouts just doesnt provide all that but it does unite all your sms & hangouts into a single conversation very nicely and the new version is slick.

I've been with hangouts for a while. Had some minor issues with it but nothing worth switching over. I like my texts and IM's in the same thread when I'm talking to the same person.

you dont want to trust a piece of core functionality (texting) to a 3rd party app that may or may not be around in another year.

i didnt like hangouts at first but now i wouldnt download anything to replace it.

I switch often. I'm back on ChompSMS at the moment. It has all the features of textra plus it doesn't duplicate my sms/Mms storage like textra does.

I really like the ability to schedule texts. I was hoping hangouts would add it in the latest version.

I hope it is gone in a year. I hope the entire 3rd-party texting market collapses and everyone has to use hangouts. I am 100% in favor of a universal texting app that bypasses the carriers, but the quantity of those texting apps out there is actually preventing the "universal" concept.

I have no reason to switch from textra.

Hangs every once and again i assume from using Swiftkey but it's not bad enough that I want to switch. I like that I can search and send gifs from the app (even though half the time it says message too large) and I like that I can customize it.

Question regarding hangouts.

Some of my conversations default to sms and some default to hangouts. Even if i change it from sms to hangouts the next time i enter the conversation it's back on sms.

Cant find where to change that or any explanation of why it's not consistent from conversation to conversation.

But how do you REALLY feel?
