95% of the population uses their phone to check email, text, surf, take pics and social media. They're all one push away no matter the platform.

This is why I always take whatever phone comes free with the plan. Can it text, call, pull up email and maps? I'm good. It's 2014, if I'm doing anything serious, there's always a computer around. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old.

Best not to post anything related to Apple on the Tech Board.

The Android crowd has set up shop here and seemingly runs the board. Apple can't be mentioned here without a swarm of snark.

Fanboys on both sides need to be less fanboyish. Most of the android fanboys appear to be techheads at heart, so I think we'll see the level of discourse change in time as good information is rewarded and putdowns and emoticons are not. If it doesn't change they might as well have left it on the OT.

Seriously, though, if iOS8 does have that app sharing feature, I think you will use it a lot. You might not even realize how much time it will save you.

I'm not afraid to admit I'm wrong so I'll come back here and be completely truthful about how much it does or doesn't enhance the use of my phone.

It is beyond ridiculous how this board is turning out.

It is so far dominated by obnoxious Apple haters.

Just look at the OP of this thread. It's a completely appropriate post and the second it was put up it was an instant shite storm of Apple hate.

The fact that no one can put up a post about anything Apple related without getting tons of snarky nonsense is pathetic.

my frustration with apple is the time it takes for them to put out a decent upgrade, the 5s doesn't count as a decent upgrade.

the competition seems to be capable of putting out yearly upgrades while it takes apple over 2 years to bring anything new to the table. An acceptable time frame a few years ago, now not so much.

What is the point of having a brand-new iPhone or two every year when everyone is locked in to two-year contracts anyway?

The way that Apple does the iPhone works perfectly for me.

Going back to the iPhone 3GS, which was my first iPhone, I have my contracts lined up where I am eligible for an upgrade when the newly designed iPhone is released. My contract lined up with the release of the 4, the 5 and it will be ready to go when the 6 is released.

Carrier contracts our two years long and a newly designed iPhone comes out every two years.

The plans appear to be changing, but up until this point most people have been on a 2 year upgrade cycle because that's how the wireless companies had set things up. Doing a "half" version every year makes sense in that environment.

What exactly do you get out of these yearly upgrades? I hear people say Apple has fallen behind technologically but I don't see it. Where I see they've fallen behind is screen size. It sounds like it took Jobs dying to make getting a bigger screen happen. Other than that I'd say they've kept pace with Android. They did choose Low Energy Blue Tooth over NFC, but I wouldn't call that falling behind. Air Drop is easily equivalent to the phone bump from the Samsung commercials. What useful hardware based technology other than the aforementioned areas have they fallen behind in?

It's not like they just slapped an S on it and called it a day. IMO 5S is more significant than any upgrade since 2G-3G.
