@ConsumerReports: CR lab results: Takes at least 70lbs of force to permanently bend iPhone 6 and HTC One M8 #BendGate Video: LINK @ConsumerReports: Lab tests in: iPhone 6+ withstood 90 pounds of force before bending #BendGate Video: LINK Two days ago, the Internet erupted with photos of bent iPhone 6s, and a very-viral video of a guy creasing an iPhone 6 Plus with his bare hands. It seemed like a serious concern, yet everything about the uproar was highly unscientific. We don’t like unscientific, so we promised then that we would use our lab equipment to find out just how delicate the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus really are. We also promised to run the same tests on comparable smart phones. We’ve done that now, and our tests show that both iPhones seem tougher than the Internet fracas implies. /Thread

The iPhone 6 Plus, the more robust of the new iPhones in our testing, started to deform when we reached 90 pounds of force, and came apart with 110 pounds of force. With those numbers, it slightly outperformed the HTC One (which is largely regarded as a sturdy, solid phone)

Apple needs to fix this, even if it's "only a few" and "slight bending".
It doesn't appear to be an issue with the aluminum itself, but rather with the internal geometry of the device.
Apple is utilizing anodized 6003 aluminum for the external casing, which isn't exactly a malleable alloy.
Most of the bends are occurring near the volume buttons, which is where a hole exists in the structure of the phone to accommodate the buttons. If you apply a force vector at the proper angle, the internal forces of the structure become concentrated in this area, resulting in the bend.
If you don't apply a sufficient force vector at the proper angle, you won't see an indelible bend in the device.

I don't understand how the 6+ required more force in their test, though.

My guess is leverage. The "real world" tests using hands require the person to be able to grip the phone and push in the center. A larger phone means a better grip with the phone being able to be held deeper in the palms allowing for more leverage and it feeling easier to bend when in actuality it's just easier to apply the force against the center.

Because they likely didn't bend it where the stress point was.
But you apple fanboys keep saying fap fap fap and slapping each other on the back that apple never makes a mistake.

quote:It's a flat, metal back... applying pressure in the middle or closer to the edges is the same as long as the sides are being held steady. The stress points would get the same amount of pressure until one weak spot began to give... which happened in the test. I explained why the real world tests act differently.
Because they likely didn't bend it where the stress point was.

Yes. Why you care so much to make a 25 second post that tries to make a person feel like shite because he purchased a phone.

And if I decide on the 6/6+?

Galaxy Note 3
67% stronger than an iPhone 6+
114% stronger than an iPhone 6
And........
It can shoot videos in 4K and the lens doesn't stick out like a fish eye.
