How can the AC system regulate temp and flow in individual rooms without adjusting the vents?

if it cools a normally hot room does the rest of the house get freezing?

Basically, but I have mine set to follow me, so it only attempts to cool the hot room if I'm in there and if I'm not, it only tries to cool the rooms that I'm actually in. The benefit for me is that my thermostat is in my hallway which was always a different temp than the rest of my house. So I shut the sensor in the thermostat off and only have it reading the additional sensors.

I think you're doing a bad job of explaining.

It doesn't only cool the room you're in. Rather than using the thermometer ON the thermostat itself to regulate the temp, it can use the sensor instead as its base. It will function based off of the temperature in whatever room the sensor is in and run until the desired temp in that room is reached. If it has to freeze the rest of the house to do it, than so be it.

ETA If the sensor is in your bedroom and you want it 70 in your room, the AC will run until that temp is reached in that specified room. The rest of the house may be at 68, but your room will be at the temp you want.

Basically runs your system until the desired temp is reached wherever your sensor is placed. Regardless of the temperature wherever your actual thermostat is placed.

Yes, and on the opposite side, if you want the temp in your bedroom to be 70, it will stop cooling once the bedroom hits 70 even if the rest of your house is 78.

That's if you have it setup like that. It will also take averages for multiple rooms if you want it too. If you have it set to 70 and its 70 in the bedroom and 72 in the living room, it can average those out to 71 and keep running. But it all depends on how you have it set up.

The way you initially explained it made it sound like cool air was only going into one room at a time.

Ah, yeah that was not the intention. Sorry for any confusion.

That's why I put THESE in my daughter's bedroom. They are about to release integration with Ecobee to automatically open and shut paired with whichever sensor they are closest too. For now I have them on a schedule so they shut to 30% at night so it doesn't get too cold in her room but will in mine.

I'm thinking I want the Ecobee. I don't have Echo and don't think I ever will and I feel like the sensors could be great, even if its just one in my bedroom.

I know the Honeywell does a lot of shite the NEST and Ecobee can do, but if I'm being totally honest, I think the other two look badass as well

The Honeywell just looks like a standard thermostat. I like the idea of a futuristic looking black LED screen on my wall.

I have both a Honeywell wifi thermostat (the model CAD recommends- in fact I bought it about 18 months ago after reading his recommendation) and an Ecobee. The Honeywell is upstairs and the Ecobee downstairs. Both do their job well, but the Ecobee does more, and has the capacity to expand more in the future through integration with 3rd party additions like the Keen smart vents. I have 3 remote sensors and will add more in the future. I have been happy with it so far. Like another poster, I have the sensor built in the the thermostat "turned off" in terms of being averaged in to control the A/C. It doesn't accurately reflect the temperature in the house. That is due to placement, not to any fault if the thermostat.

Incident Report for Wink

New Incident Status: Resolved

After working with the Honeywell engineering, we have been able to confirm that users logged into their Honeywell accounts will not lose connection nor have control issues

Honeywell thermostat accounts using OAuth to authenticate to the Honeywell API have been showing increased control issues (e.g., unable to change setpoint); this is impacting Wink users of Honeywell thermostats. Wink and Honeywell are investigating the issue with the Total Connect Comfort authorization servers and are working towards a resolution.

Isn't total connect a service you pay for monthly ?

ecobee3 seems like the best thermostat currently with the in room sensors.

I've been recently looking to upgrade my thermostat and everything I've read points to the ecobee

Have they confirmed that these will integrate with the Ecobee3? If so, then I will go this route for replacing the two thermostats in my house.

Does anyone have two ac units that are each connected with an ecobee? Do the two units communicate with each other, or do you have to program them separately?

i would seriously consider waiting for this

been chatting with the ceo/whatever who invented these and i'm pretty sold on the price and the product. he swears wink support will happen almost immediately and it works with all the smart thermostats.

Nice, thanks. Did I understand correctly that it will utilize the sensors for the ecobee? You can get a 2 pack of ecobee sensors for $65 (cost of 1 flair puck), so you could have sensors in every room pretty cheap and then just add the flair vents at $40?

Would you have to add at least one flair puck or would the vents just integrate with the ecobee?

I can definitely justify the cost of something like this with how much it could save me running 2 ac units on my house in TX in the summer. Between that and swapping out over 80 bulbs to LED in the house, I should see a significant reduction in electricity consumption.

call/email the guy or post on the flair.co forums.

because there are so many nuances here that constitute 'integration' i would proceed with caution in setting expectations.

i purchased a set as an experiment to see how well the bluetooth proximity, humidity & temp sensor works. i also love how i can move the puck around and it appears you can use it as a 'normal' thermostat without needing a phone.

all this sounds so great in theory. but until i see with my own eyes how the integration with the puck -> thermostat -> smart vents works i would hesitate to promise too much.

That forum answered a lot of my questions. It looks like you need 1 puck within range of any vents but that within 100' 1 puck is enough to control the vents.

However, you might want other pucks because of additional features that will be added in the future.
