My router wont even power up. I have troubleshot it and everything leads being fried.

My modem powers up, connects to internet, yet the ethernet port isnt sending a signal out.

for reference I have a Asus RT-N66U and a cisco dpc3010.

If so what should i get now?

That is often one of the first things to fry. Very likely...

Happens all the time.

Get a Motorola SB6121: LINK

Build a pfSense router out of an old PC and an extra NIC.

Get Unifi(s) for wireless APs.

test the power supply output with a voltmeter or try a different one with sim specs and same plug/polarity.

Not possible for a giant electrical strike to fry small electrical items

We had our modem quit working after a storm but it was just the power adapter. Had another, with close enough amperage, to hold me over until I replaced it.

Lightning fried three of the ethernet ports last year. Fortunately still under warranty at the time and they sent me a new one.

Why waste the electricity and add unnecessary complexity?

Just get normal router.

If the strike comes through the coax, and your modem, it will completely bypass the surge protector and fry everything in its path

I've lost a couple routers and modems over the years this way. Finally put the units on surge protectors. You can buy one that runs the coax through the surge protector too.

they are on 2 different surge protectors. thats why this is odd. Could the surge have come through the cable line?

Yep. I bought 4 of these from Newegg a while back. You can run your coax, phone line (if you have home phone) through the surge protector. I don't remember the models - I am at work - but I'll edit with the models later.

I think they were $15-$20 each, but well worth it.

while it would be a net project i cant do that right now. but i will think about that in the future.

BTW why did you recommend the 6121 model with the 6141 has double the bonded channels for 20$ more? Just wondering.

It's absolutely possible if the cable company didn't ground the feed at the house. I had a client with a $200k home automation system that took a huge hit because it wasn't grounded outside.

What speed are you paying for right now? I've witnessed a difference between 4x4 and 8x4 modems in a heavily subscribed area at 50mbps.

I used to run my coax through my surge protector, but the TV signal kept getting screwed up.

Oh, I wasn't aware that dedicated router devices were fake routers.
