Is a TV wall mount considered "tech"?

If I am indeed on the right board, I'm looking for a full motion TV wall mount that extends at least 20" from the wall. The TV is a 46" Sony flat screen.
Any recommendations or warnings? Thanks.

This one from Amazon for $30 fits that criteria: LINK
I use it myself, and pretty much everyone and their dog uses it too.

Just curious so don't take this as sarcastic, but what kind of situation calls for you to need to extend your TV out 20 inches? I would be scared to death of it falling off that far out.

This. If you pay more than $30 for a mount, youre wasting your time.

It shouldn't be an issue. With a 100 lb. tv 24" away from the connection the moment is 200 lb/ft. You'll have (2) lag screws that are long enough to fully develop the tensile strength and unless the lags are very cheap grade steel or smaller than 3/8" you'll never approach the allowable strength of the screw.

That one I posted actually uses 3 lag screws. I could probably hang on it if I wanted to and maybe bend the metal but nothing more than that. The stud would probably rip from the wall before the lag bolts failed.
I keep mine pretty much against the wall, though, unless I'm at my computer want to turn it toward me.

I have 2 tvs mounted on this mount, no problems and plenty of manipulation. The tvs are in rooms across the hall, I can sit in the door of my sons room and play with him while he has his cartoons on and I can put the guest room tv facing me across the hall and catch whatever. If I didnt want to do that, I would never extend the mount.

My biggest concern is the bracket deflecting when it's pulled away from the wall and especially when it's tilted to one side making the whole thing want to twist. I had one similar to what you posted and it started to sag pretty bad when in that position so when I bought a bigger TV I replaced it with one that has two arms.

Don't you mean money?

Real question
i'm looking to get one for outside, i've seen some that are 90 swivel or 180 swivel. This one says 360. So it can turn completely backwards?
this one says swivels 90

I got one from monoprice
What I don't like about the one posted earlier is that it only connects to one stud
The one I have had a wider wall plate that will screw to 2 studs
It has solid aluminum scissor arms and doesn't really deflect much
I paid about 70 bucks for it 6 years ago

Imo the telescoping mounts are worth it even if you don't need it
It's easy to pull the TV away from the wall for hooking something up, etc., and they barely cost anything nowadays

Great stuff. Thanks, guys.
Tigerfanatic, our den entertainment space is a nook 28" deep. The arm will be necessary for whole room viewing but i wouldn't leave the thing extended all the time, so I'm thinking I'll be fine. I like the models that utilize multiple studs, and I was even considering adding hole or two if necessary.

Yeah, I could see the concern, but it covers enough length of the stud that it doesn't worry me at all. It's supposed to support 88 pounds. Granted, I'm only using it with a 32" TV at the moment so it's not even coming close to that limit.

What do ya'll think of these things? Seems like a rather elegant solution for a DIY job to go along with the wall mount. PowerBridge
