I downloaded the app to my phone and tablet and I have voice remote capability through the app. I really do prefer to have a hardwire to any device that I stream movies with though and that would be the one major advantage I would give the box. However it does seem that amazon forces you to their own video experience as well. There is no Disney Movies app or VUDU which are a pain. So if you have shared libraries it wont show up for Amazon Fire.

If you don't mind paying the extra $800+ every year, that's fine. I do mind. It's a waste of money IMO.

Your wife can figure out how to find all of her shows online. It's not difficult.

As for your kids, if they're young, Netflix, Prime and the multitude of other apps will provide enough content to keep them happy. If they're older, they already know how to do this stuff.

Oh! Thank you. I like the idea of a voice remote, though.

The smartphone app, which works for the sitck and TV, allows you to voice search.

My smart tv has a few apps but not as many as my xbox 360

Thinking of...
Netflix
Hulu plus
Epsn
Hd antenna
Bravo
Hgtv

Does this sound solid? Does the espn app give several college football games live?

I agree it's not. If I was single, I would no doubt have cut the cord and leached off others HBO/Cox accounts.

But, when the internet is down, or the website is down, or her computer fritzes out and the kid is crying and just wants to watch Mickey Mouse, or whatever it sho is easy just to turn on the box and there it is.

To me, it's a pretty decent product for $70-80/month. Hell it costs $80 for 1 trip to the movie theater for a family of four.

You won't find that on the internet, free or otherwise.

Well, yes you will find it but it's pirated and often low-quality because it's taken with a video cam in a movie theater. There used to be half-a-dozen host sites that cataloged them and streamed them. When one would shut down another would spring up. This was six or seven years ago when bit torrents were still in their infancy.

The quality is only as good as the upload source. So if it is the movies, it obviously needs to be taken by camera.

I don't know why anyone would waste time with that

That was exactly my point if you read the post.

I read your post:

I remember the first time I discovered that "free" content several years ago. I was watching a first-run movie (with Russian subtitles) and people kept walking in front of the screen. I'm cheap but not that cheap.

Your point is stupid. The thread is about cable quality to streaming quality. Anything that is available for cable can be found online in High Definition quality.

You can download bluray quality movies.

ESPN. I haven't had a cable provider in two months and it has not been a big deal.

You don't have ESPN unless you are leaching off someone else's hard earned dollar.

You can find everything in 1080p these days

I suppose so if you are willing to steal it.

If someone is sharing it through a stream, I would not exactly call that leaching.

Is streaming illegal? Have the courts ruled on that yet?

What's the difference between the stick and the box?

The box has an ethernet port, so if your wireless connection is spotty - go with the box. The stick is about $60 cheaper though.
