I have Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon, then WatchESPN for sports. I also had to get the NBA app to watch Pelicans (through a DNS server so it wouldn't black it out). Paying for all those, I still save a ton of money each month and I don't regret getting rid of Cox one bit.

ETA: I use Roku, but you can do it with Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV also.

I would also suggest investing in an HD antenna so you can get CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. This may depend on what area you live in, but I get all of them crystal clear in New Orleans.

Well you're not going to find that anywhere online, dummy.

Try to keep it civil. This isn't the poli board.

I was being civil. Calling you a "dummy" wasn't meant to contain any venom. It was a friendly jab. Apologies if it offended you.

ETA: But your example of how hard it is to find free online content was eye roll worthy. No one is talking about trying to find movies still in theaters. You won't find that on the internet, free or otherwise.

Cant find anything about ESPN that you do not have to have Sling TV. WatchESPN only states to connect with provider.

Is Sling TV available yet?

I am waiting for my ROKU to arrive. Going to either cut DirectTV completely or move to the lowest package and use my mom's login for ESPN, SECnetwork, and HBO and I would have everything I need.

Sure, but explain to my wife and kid. I don't know any grown folks with wife & or kids that don't have cable.

I really don't see it as such a bad deal. How much is just the internet that is good enough to stream all this content if you cut the cord? $50/month? So, for an extra $70, I get a much more efficient/available product at my finger tips? Yes, please.

It looks good, but I'm tired of dealing with AT&T. The equipment they gave me for my U-Verse was crap. I'm just over them.

I can't argue with that. I was on the phone with Comcast for almost 4 hours yesterday.

The modem/router combo AT&T gives out is shite. I have my own modem and router for Comcast

Well everyone I know already has an Amazon and Netflix account. So that isn't an increase in cost.

Hulu Plus is a $8-9/month and has pretty much every network show on there. Over the air HD is completely free.

So really, cutting the cord only costs about $10 in new costs

Yeah, and it's not just AT&T. It's all the providers, really. I just want internet. I don't want 400 shopping channels I'll never use. I just want decent movies and some channels. I just bought an HD antennae, and I'm thinking of buying a Roku3 and Amazon Fire TV. I'll give it a shot. I'm not very tech savvy, but it never hurts to try to save a little dough.

There is always that one BS channel a wife will watch to completely screw with your plans. Lifetime is often the culprit.

Oh! Thank you. I like the idea of a voice remote, though.

I watched a full season of this show called "The Lottery" on Lifetime. It was pretty good.

We're talking about movies that are available to the public. You can't watch those movies on cable either...

The quality is only as good as the upload source. So if it is the movies, it obviously needs to be taken by camera.

I don't know why anyone would waste time with that

I thought they have a remote that does the voice remote.

I know you can use the Fire App on your phone that has the voice remote

KODI - is the new name for XBMC.

KODI's Website

You can get a box off ebay fully loaded with remote for like a 100 bucks.

Make sure it's loaded with Navi-X. (Promise me you'll enjoy it)
