Home Automation question

I am looking at getting those touchscreen deadbolts for my house. The problem is that the door I want to put it on has windows. Does anyone know if they make one with a key on the other side (in the house) and not a latch? A deadbolt doesn't do much good if they can just break a window pane and unlock it.

I asked the same question and got a bunch of replies about how big of a fire hazard it is to have a double cylinder dead bolt.

Well that is what I have on all my doors because they all have windows on them. And I get my key every night and go lock all the deadbolts. Works well and seems more secure.

What happens in a fire when you can't find your key, or if you do happen to find your key, bc of smoke you can't find the keyhole?

I'm not sure. It's a valid question but I think I would probably go through the nearest window.
Do you have any windows on your doors? You don't think it will be easy to just crack a pane and unlock the door?
I'm torn now.

I think someone on the outside who's willing to break a door window is likely to think the same thing. I figure if they're dedicated enough to break a small window, why not a bigger one? I could very well be wrong. It's mostly a matter of how paranoid you are and what you decide you want to be true.

I would consider home automation for your convenience, not added deterrence. Locks are for honest people.

As soon as they open the door, my alarm goes off.

Yea I can just put a motion detector right by the door.

A keyed deadbolt won't keep them from kicking it in which is how the few home burglaries I know of happened.

1. You might not be able to get to a window bc of the fire.
2. My main issue is with small children who probably can't open a window.
Unfortunately there is no perfect answer. It's a compromise between fire safety and security. But to answer your question, I do have windows by my doors and the deadbolts can be opened from the inside without a key. If a thief wants to get in your house they will simply kick the door in. It really isn't that hard on most houses. The deadbolt just gives you a false sense of security.

They also sell glass break detectors for most major alarm systems.

The nest cam will do both motion and sound detection if you don't want to go with a full alarm system.

locks are to keep honest people honest.
i watched a video of a guy bypassing the door and simply cutting a hole in the side of the house through the vinyl siding and walking right in.
took all of 1 minute.
