Have a question for a friend. He is pretty sure his wife has something she is hiding as she always hides her phone, etc. His wife asked for a divorce a bit ago and he has found phones numbers, etc (they still live in same house). He knows she uses google hangouts, but if he added it to his phone and signed in under her email/password - does he have to add her phone number to recieve incoming messages? He doesn't want to add her number to the one on his phone because it will send a code to text. Since hangouts is linked through email (and phone), will these messages go through?

This is a very, very delicate situation as there is a lot I don't know about (and some I do), but finding out is important to him...

if he logs into her email account on a PC he will likely be able to see all her hangout chats (unless she's using SMS in hangouts).

even if she was clever and 'deleted' them (i doubt it) those hangout messages will still hang out in the trash folder for 30 days.

eta before he does this, tell him to take a deep breath and a shot of whiskey first.

if she's anything like my ex, he's not going to enjoy reading the content of those messages.

Yikes for him. What if she is using SMS? And would it send the messages to his phone if he downloaded the hangouts and signed in under her email (but not confirm phone number).

He needs to get her drunk and while she sleeps he should get into her phone and download one of those apps that records all activities and gives him access.

Then, throw her fricking arse out. Do NOT let her live in luxury while planning her escape with his shite.

Take all valuables and hide. Drain bank accounts BEFORE she files.

All debt is BOTH of theirs while still married. Put everything possible into a financed situation so she's stuck with half of All debt.

Does she work? If not, this will put her in a position of not try to grab property that she would have to pay for.

Anything devious, do it.

Because...

If you think you have to look to find out if something is going on, IT IS GOING ON!

been there done that?

and its a called a keystroke capture tool. it was easier when everyone used PCs but you can still find them for phones.

sometihng like 'android lost' can be set up silently on her phone to give him access to her texts, etc.

yep. hangouts goes off simultaneously on my PC, tablet and phone when i get a message..and also anywhere i'm currently logged into gmail at.

eta this level of sneakiness is generally reserved for the final death throes of a marriage.

its not pretty, he won't enjoy 'catching' her and yes this stuff is admissible in court..my ex was too stupid to protest my printouts of her texts..she could have easily said they were faked but just assumed she was busted and admitted they were authentic.

Does she really need to hide them at this point?

Download "Mighty Text" on her phone and hide it. I use it to answer messages on my desktop, but it posts all text conversations on the desktop interface in real time. Deleting the text on the phone will not delete them on the app.

infidelity (at least in TN) is irrelevant in court.

the only reason my wife's text caught her up was she had been in rehab and was telling the judge a bunch of shite about being clean and after reading texts judge ordered us BOTH to take drug tests immediately and when hers came back positive, boom. point to CAD.

prior to that it was a shitshow and i was quickly losing everything including my kids. that turned everything around and judge kicked her out of the house and forbade her from seeing the kids for a year without supervision.

i'd like to say that helped her turn her life around but sadly..its been 10 years now..and she's still a trainwreck.

In my friend's case, her career can definitely be affected by an affair. Due to her position, she would stand to lose a lot - including retirement.

Hell, if she uses hangouts, no need to do that. He could log into her account on a desktop or laptop and install the hangouts extension on Chrome.

Well, one thing the "friend" might be interested in is that when you text from Mighty Text on the desk top some of the text do not show up on the phone.
