First experience using Android Pay in the store

So ever since they broke up Google Wallet you have to have a password on your phone in order to use android pay. I hate that but that is probably just a personal preference.
However, BECAUSE of this I read on here that it would make android pay more seemless (meaning i wouldnt have to enter a passcode at the terminal if the phone was awake already).
Well that definitely isnt what happened the first time i used it. It still asked me to enter my passcode, and then put the phone back up the NFC terminal a second time. It ended up not evening recognizing the phone the second time around so it didnt work.
This second issue may have just been something with the NFC terminal, but what's up with STILL having to enter a passcode?
Anyone had any different experiences?

I've used Applepay a few times and I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was. Double tap the home button while near the NFC terminal and leave your thumb on for a second while it authenticates you. The convenience factor vs. pulling out my credit card is greater than I thought it would be. But if I had to enter a pass code that'd destroy the whole benefit gained. Hopefully the fingerprint sensors will become more or less standard on Android too. BTW, this isn't an "Apple vs. Android" post, this is a "NFC payment + Biometric Authentication is pretty cool" post.

I haven't had an issue with it. I just flop it out and wave it around.

For some reason the cashier calls for security when I do this.

Paying with your phone is for hipster douches.

Agreed but its also more secure.
Anyway the issue is android pay allows you to enter cards even if your bank isnt supported yet. Only thing is you have to put it up to the NFC terminal, enter a pin, then put it up to the NFC terminal a second time.
I'll probably just not bother using it until my bank gets on board which appears to be within the next couple of months (says before 2016 in a statement i read).
Of course my bank was already on board with google wallet so for there to be a delay is pretty stupid but that's another topic.

You don't even have to double tap. Just place, don't press, your thumb on the home button and it will bring up your card for you to pay.

Agree with OP about the insistence of a phone PIN. Loved Google Wallet but Android Pay misses the mark. Not only does it require the (same) PIN to unlock the phone but it actually makes the app LESS secure - anyone that uses your phone also has the keys to Android Pay. I much prefer to use my phone without PIN access since I'm on & off of it constantly where in using Wallet/Android Pay it's an occasional thing where entering a PIN prior to use is of no consequence. This was a step backwards & smacks of the sort of crap Apple is famous for - Google should know better than this.

Different technologies to complete the transaction. It requires a new set of terms, system, and expectations from the banking partner.

I honestly don't think you thought it through very well. I don't wanna be harsh but don't give your pin for your phone to everyone. If you just want to "bypass" not using the pin, then set the timer to lock at like 30 minutes. This app is worlds easier than wallet.

Dont really care the reason. Should have gotten a ton more banks on board before making the switch.

Yeah that's what i did. I also made work and home "safe" places. I believe the theory is it should never lock at home or work.
But of course it does. Still even with these adjustments you still have to enter a PIN several times a day. That's pretty damn aggravating. That's the biggest issue to me.
And yes after reading the article on why i still had to enter a pin IN THE APP it makes perfect sense. I'll just have to be patient until Chase is on board.

If you understood the reason for the change, you would understand why it didn't happen that way.

maybe. But it's not like i bank with iberville federal credit union mom and pops bank.
From a consumer stand point to have something working flawlessly, and have an update take the capability away completely is dropping the ball.

YMMV, obviously, but it works the same for me at this time as it did before. I'm not sure what you are referring to. The only difference now is that when your bank is on board, it will cut out one step that you used to have to engage in.
