I have an Apple 6 iPhone. I was in the Sears at Clearview Shoping Center yesterday. I spent about five minutes in the mattress section yesterday. I didn't talk to any salesperson. I have a dormant Sears credit card. I paid it off about three years ago. I never get any emails from them. Today, a few minutes ago, I got a text from Sears with a link asking me if I am looking for a new mattress. The email was sent to my AOL address on my cell phone, which was with me yesterday. The last time I used my Sears credit card was a bit over three years ago, and my cell phone number and email address was/is linked to my Sears credit acct.

Are the marketers actually using cell phone signals in any particular part of the stores to find customers? Does my way of asking the question make any sense? I am not freaking out, but I am amazed that marketing to the consumer can be pin-pointed like that.

Wifi and Bluetooth can track a customer around a store these days.

even if you aren't connected to the stores wifi or Bluetooth? I'm not surprised by this, I've just never really thought about the fact that companies do this.

If yes ... what other information would they be pulling? Obviously not just an email address

Both Apple and Google use your GPS data on your phone 24/7. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad.

When my daughter first started going to day care, she went on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After a few weeks my phone picked up on my driving pattern and it would alert me to traffic along the 2 different routes I took to work depending on the day.

Just know that Sears paid Apple to know that you were there, and you didn't get anything in return.

Now that you mentioned this, I notice that every Sunday morning, my route and estimated time to church is on my daily menu. These phones are something, to say the least.

Apple is actually not that great at marketing their customers, I'd bet it was Facebook.

Mine does the same thing. When I get in my car at home most mornings it gives me a traffic alert along my usual route. Thursday mornings it gives me traffic to where I go that morning. Wednesday afternoon it gives me traffic to church. Other afternoons it gives me traffic home.

If you go to your Notification Widgets Screen which you can get to by swiping right at the lock screen or pulling down from the top when the phone is unlocked, you get access to that information and more. The widget where they list the travel time will also show you where you parked your car.

Lol if that scares you, check "My timeline." on Google Maps.
When people find out about this, they turn it off. But it's been pretty clutch for me a couple of times when I was trying to find instances where I was in a specific place.

When people start complaining about the Windows 10 privacy issues(being in I.T. lots of nerd conversations like that) my first question is always "Do you have a smartphone?" cause if you do nearly every aspect of your life is being monitored.

I try to minimize things that seems overzealous but for the most part I have just decided I can't be bothered to worry about it too much.

Phones can detect which part of a store you spent time in . Then beam ads to you based on which zone you visited.

Not a coincidence. This is targeted marketing
