Chromebooks outselling Mac laptops

Chromebooks have surpassed sales of Mac laptops in the United States for the first time ever. And that doesn’t surprise me. Because roughly a year ago I made the same switch. Formerly a lifelong Mac user, I bought my first PC ever in the form of a Chromebook. And I’m never looking back.

The biggest consideration was price. When all was said and done, even the cheapest Mac laptop was going to set me back about $1,300 after taxes and AppleCare. And the siren song of a computer under $200 was calling my name. I got the Acer Chromebook with 2GB of RAM and a 16GB drive. It cost a shockingly low $173. And it was worth every penny. It even came with 100GB of Google Drive storage and twelve GoGo inflight internet passes. If you travel enough, the thing literally pays for itself in airline wifi access.

This trend should obviously terrify Apple. Computers have become fungible commodities, just like HDTVs before them.

Well no joke. In other news, Dirt Devil vacuums outsell Dyson Vacuums.
Many school districts are loading up on $200 chrome books for students. They're not bad machines by any stretch. But it's really apples and oranges.

That's retarded on so many levels. People who perceive quality are willing to pay for it, and for years, Mac sales have been growing while PC sales have been declining. Apple may one day have to compete on price across its product lines, but year after year, despite call after call for it, that goalpost keeps getting moved to the future. It's really quite remarkable.

You know what other laptops outsell Mac laptops every single quarter? Windows laptops.
1985-2015 called. They want their argument back.

How many people bought a chromebook and then returned it a few days later when they couldn't navigate the OS, or realized that it couldn't do all the things a real PC could do?
How many people bought a chromebook for cheap but still have their Windows PC or Macbook on hand in case they wanted to, you know, get shite done?

Used to have a Mac but have recently switched to chromebook. Google docs has everything I need. I doubt most people need all the bells and whistles that come with a MacBook.

This guy gets it. Nobody is talking about replacing a hardcore workstation running video editing tools or AutoCAD.

I agree. They both come from trees, have an outer skin, have seeds, sold at the same places, within the same color scheme and have a tang to them. They are basically the same.

Hey I use a pc laptop for work and can't replace that with a Chromebook but when I'm traveling for pleasure I'd much much rather have a Chromebook.
Unlike the Mac fan boys I don't have an irrational attachment to my Dell laptop and don't need this article to point out about a billion advantages to traveling with a $150 laptop with a 10 hour battery.
Eta I bet the Apple knee jerkers in this thread have never used or comprehend the concept of a vnc.

Did you expect the responses over some sales figures to be this pathetic?
