YouTube has some unreal content. Ever since google bought them it's changed for the better. I listen to it all day while I work. I look up sometimes, but mostly it's just a live show so there's not much to look at.

I can't imagine not having a real amplifier that I can plug in whatever technology > analog I want.

eta, scratch that, i found this:

quote:

The Harman Kardon Omni+ lineup boasts a wealth of streaming services including Spotify Connect and Google Cast for audio, and other key services like Deezer, Qobuz and Tidal in addition to stored local content on any device accessible via the Harman Kardon Controller App. With Google Cast for Audio, hundreds of streaming services can be accessed, including Google Play Music, Pandora, TuneIn Radio, Rhapsody, and many more, allowing customers to listen to what they want, how they want, all in HD sound.

the google cast is a key component here.

very hard to find out actual details from this site. trying to find more substantive reviews now.

CAD, I would use a chromecast or Airport Express with the line in feature on your speakers. Thats how I play stuff from any phone to all of the Sonos speakers. It could even be something as simple as a bluetooth dongle if you wanted to go that route.

Also, you can set alarms to play music at any time you want from any of your stations. I have it set to come on each morning and on in the afternoon before I get home. (though I can see why you'd like control over the internet, it seems like the next logical step).

I agree that the system isn't perfect, but I think you'd run into most of the issues (and then some) with any of the other comparable systems on the market. I'd love someone to show me any new system that is as simple and easy to use as Sonos with new added functionality.

direct streaming, yes, BUT you can connect to it via bluetooth I believe, which opens the door to the world.

wont argue that its super easy but i'm intrigued with some of the newer offerings/competitors starting to finally show up.

here's a great quick summary of the new HK

ETA

Omni+ 20: $209 (either white or black) from HK reburb store
Omni+ 10: $139 (either white or black) from HK reburb store

I work for Harman so take my suggestions with a grain of salt, but the sound quality for the system is as good as you are going to find anywhere in these kinds of systems, and there are plenty of reviews that opine that it is audibly better than the Sonos systems. The connections and control are also very open, even having a bridge accessory to connect HiFi systems to it.

It's pricey as frick to outfit your home with them though.

see my edit above to add prices. are you using this system in your home?

its not pricey as frick given how much 4 speakers from SONOS already cost me (and i got deals on all 4).

i've seen amazon reviews saying the speakers hum, buzz or give up after a couple of months. what is your experience?

are you saying just go with 20s and 10s throughout your house?

what about surround? any 5.1 options available with this set?

do they 'stereo pair' like sonos?

the HD audio output is very attractive as is the 5Ghz WiFi and the fact each have a line-input on them.

is there an available sub?

one thing i really want is to use UdPnP to stream my music from a master server at the house since everything i have is FLAC. how is this at connecting to a local shared NAS?

yes

I have not experienced this at all. That being said I have scrutinized them looking for this closely, but I am a bit of an audiophile, and I've never heard any buzz or other distortion whether ambient or in the background of music or speech

yea, and that's what I did. 20s in larger rooms or rooms where you specifically want stronger bass, and I think I have two of the 10s in smaller rooms. There is a difference in base output, but I can say I have never thought to myself that the 10s were weak.

Not at this point, but pairing two of them 20s in stereo mode is legit.

not at this point, but It's a product line that Harman is not done with yet.

Can't really answer this one as I haven't looked into those types of connections at all. I'm sure there is a way to though, possibly through the adapt?

One last thing I think may appeal to you is that the SDK is open source with the intentional hope that developers will program connected home uses for it.

great feedback. i guess i let the sonos hype blind me..but to be fair i did start a massive thread on here about it

this is really an area where you have to get something in place to play with before you can really form an accurate opinion on how it works for you.

i'm willing to give HK a try esp. at half the price of sonos.

eta any experience with the HK refurb store?

No, I've always just bought internally. I don't have any reason to believe it's shoddy though. I'm just a systems analyst so I don't really have any vested interest in trying to make a sell here. No reason to try to bullshite you.

Thank you. I've always felt manuf. Refurbished is better than me because they have to test everything out before it goes in the box.

I can confirm that HK does. I started in the Factory Service department here. In any case, if you decide to try it out post a discussion thread. I'd be curious to follow your opinion and experience.

CAD, you selling your Sonos stuff on closeout now?

I'd be interested in trying something new, but I have too much invested in my setup and it works for me.

Same. I still love Sonos for what we do with it as a family.

ETA: CAD sell me your stuff and not TigerWise.
ETA2: Didn't HK stop selling their Omni 10 and Omni 20 products?

Cad I want your sonos stuff, what are you selling and prices on each ?

I need two speakers to complete my 5.1 setup.

None of your issues affect me at all and I havent stopped listening to mine since I bought them.

Simply put, Sonos is the modern day Bose. Overpriced for the performance it provides. If you do some research, there's much better sounding equipment out there for the price you pay.

I also was disappointed after setting up my sonos system. Not being able to stream whatever I wanted irritated the hell out of me.

Once I dug deeper and found plex integration and being able to cast from firetv I am back on the sonos train.

Using youtube as your main music streaming service says a lot about a user.
