Best Laptop to get in the $500-600 range?

I honestly only use the basics, web browsing and Excel. And I run 1 program, OOTP(a baseball sim)
Otherwise, not much.
Since I don't need a whole lot, I've gone the cheap route and gotten $200 ish laptops my last 2 go rounds, but you get what you pay for, and they're falling apart(physically and internally) 2 years later from wear and tear...and cheapness I guess.
I would prefer something smaller, in that 11 inch screen range.
I'd also prefer something in the touch screen/convertible realm, but that is not a necessity.
I'm not 100% against going the Apple route, not even sure if there is one in that price range, but mainly just because i'm so used to a PC I'll probably prefer to stick with that.
The best I can come up with right now is one of those HP Streams, but wanted to hear from the Tech Board on what else is out there.

I have had good luck with the two Lenovos I bought. I have a Thinkpad for the last 2-3 years and it does the basics like you need. I am pretty sure it was in the $550-$650 range. It does have a 15.6" monitor. It has a great battery life also, something like 12+ hours.
It's the older version of this one
I also have a Yoga 2 but I think of it more as a tablet than laptop.

After the whole superfish situation, I'm highly skeptical of Lenovo products, which is a shame since they make some pretty cool devices.

I would just keep checking slickdeals until you see something you like. This is the closest thing to what you're looking for:
LINK
Screen is a bit bigger than you'd like and it's a bit overkill for your needs, but it is convertible and you wouldn't have to update for another ~5 years.
Intel Core i5-6200U 2.3GHz Dual-Core CPU (6th Gen Skylake)
13.3" 1920x1080 FHD IPS display
128GB Solid State Drive
8GB (1x8GB) DDR3L RAM
Intel HD 520 Graphics
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac

I'm having a problem with my Lenovo, it won't charge the battery. Bought a replacement battery and it still won't charge.

try the device mgr, looking for charging [ just a wild arse guess ]
there should be something...anyways, delete it, then reboot
it will auto detect and reinstall for you, see if that works....process of elimination

Could also be a bad cable or charge port

I don't know if it is tech board approved or not, but I have a $300 Acer laptop that is 4 years old and has survived brutal usage and transportation. It still works as good today as it did when I bought it. I will buy again. Cannot beat the value. Plenty to chose from in that price range.

i got a lenova yoga 15 laptop that is convertible and touch screen. i love it, but i got an absolute deal on it. it was 700 brand new no tax with extra 3 year at home warranty that covers even accidents.
but any ways i say that to say that i am glad i got touch screen.. i like using the touch screen just to scroll through browsers. i also like having a 15" screen because i still felt 10-13 was too small and 17 is too big..
if 13" is fine by you, that computer someone linked in here for like 600 looks like a very good deal. has the ssd and 8 gbs of ram, convertible, touch screen, etc..
i think you'd be fine settling for something like an i3 or i5 dell touch screen in the 500 range.. maybe adding an ssd to it? but you know the thing is when you do buy those lower tier computers.. if you do try to do anything extra to them you wind up spending as much any ways and still have less features..
i've seen hit and miss reviews of the toshiba laptop. i just don't know. i really like how my lenovo is built to take a beating, yet it's actually pretty light to carry and battery holds up very well imo.
any ways good luck in your endeavor. i know you don't need much, but i really think you should get something with an ssd or add one to it.. really improves the performance.

Same with my Asus. I think it's 5 years old. I put windows 10 on it and it's still great

I have a yoga 2 as well, but I'm the opposite. I hardly ever use it as a tablet.

Another question, for my $600 price range, how about a used Surface Pro or Macbook Air? I'm not picky or care about the Apple vs non-Apple war, i can be happy with either.
