TripIt can be useful to plan itineraries, automatically records your reservations and such.

If you are using trains then... Railteam Mobile is invaluable. Figuring out euro trains on the euro websites sux. This app is easily searchable and gives you all the info i.e. time of departure and duration of trip as well as all the stops in between.

Hijack...sorta....in Berlin, Prater Garten Berlin is the oldest Biergarten in Berlin. Its a cool, laid back outdoor area. The beer is ok...I drank a lot of Scwartzbiers (pronounced Shvite-za beer"). Its the dark or black beer. They also sell big ol' brats that looked good but I don't eat murdered pigs. Also, there is a cool cafe in the Tiergarten.....Berlin's Central Park....called Cafe am neuen See. If you dont know where it is you will never find it. Its tucked into the woods on a little pond and has a huge, sprawling, multi-level deck. Again, its more about the atmosphere than the beer. Warning....public sex is allowed in the Tiergarten....damn germans...and it is usually gay sex. They are supposed to say back in the woods out of sight but ....be warned...haha!

Viber is amazing for calling back home on WiFi. Or send texts over WiFi.

Tripcase is similar to tripit but I like it better.

A compass app can be helpful

I'll have to check it out. Being free is a plus for most people. I get Tripit Pro for free so cost isn't an issue for me

I'd definitely get a Google Voice account if you don't have one already.

Google maps works great in Europe for telling you which bus to take.

Just regular maps.

So that viator app lets you book reservations for tgv trains for use with eurail passes too?

My big worry was my previous trip was in fall winter and wasnt worried about getting space on the train.

Now im going in summer and will need to get reservations ahead of time

i was just looking at the voyages snfc app for using passbook for reservations.

Can you have reservation tickets electronically and print them out at the station?

I havent seen a solid answer one way or the other, and id rather not have to buy all my train reservations months in advance and have to tote them along.

I see no where to purchase tickets via rail on viator app but I am able to book tours and print the tickets.
