The performance/dollar comparison does hold up in some cases though. When I bought my Macbook Air, if I wanted a similarly spec'd windows ultra book it would have been a few hundred dollars more. If you try and build a windows machine similarly spec'd to a Mac Pro, you're going to spend a few hundred dollars more. Those might be the only two cases where the performance/dollar comparison doesn't hold up. Mac's do hold their resale value better though and as boom roasted said earlier, my work flow is much more efficient on a Mac. When I get in my zone, i feel like a harlem globetrotter (after only 2.5 years of being on the platform) where on windows (after 20 years on the platform) I feel like I'm playing high school basketball.

Not even close to reality. This is the shite I'm talking about. Mac users have every right to prefer their machines, but they use the wrong arguments far too often. You can't fool someone who is actually educated on the hardware performance. I'm not trying to bash Mac users at all, but trying to steer them away from making embarrassing claims. I would love to see a PC part list of what you'd consider the raw performance equivalent of the Mac Pro. I'll even make it easy; use the $2,999 baseline Mac Pro. Show me yours and I'll show you mine.

Here are some hints:

- The D300 has a pitcairn core and 1280 stream processors.

- It comes with two D300s, but its crossfire capability only works in Windows.

- The baseline CPU is a XEON E5-1620 V2. Similar performance can be had from any i7 in the Haswell and Haswell refresh, but stick with socket 2011 for the extra PCIe 3.0 lanes, quad-channel memory, and increased L3 cache. This will work to your advantage because the motherboards, CPUs, and quad-channel memory kits are all more expensive.

good luck working in an office with a Mac doing anything but being a wannabe graphic artist

I'm at work humming along on my Mac everyday.

I suggest maybe YOU try Mac OSX before you knee jerk bash it.

do you ever use clerk of court sites or tax assessor, etc? in Louisiana it's all outdated windoes software for those sites so most don't work with macs.

I have no problem with Apple. I have an iPad and up until a couple weeks ago, I had iPhones for years. I just know Mac os was not compatible at my office at all.

lmao no just no. unless you mean a few hundred less.

you can build a pc that blows anything pre-built (Mac or pc) out of the water for $300+ less than retail

Not really. I normally just call and get everything done by phone.

ETA: There are programs I use (personal, non-work related) that are strictly PC, so I have a desktop at home and am probably going to get a lenovo laptop this weekend.

If you eliminate the FirePro workstation card gimmick and go with the identically spec'd PitCairn (1280 SP, 2GB Vram) setup, a better performing PC build with a liquid cooler is around $1,000 cheaper than the baseline Mac Pro.

That's pretty much it. Word, Excel, internet, occasional PP and photo editing.

However, one gripe I have against Apple is that they pretty much left my computer out to dry. They stopped with the updates, so I can't run certain types of flash.

The best liquid-cooled Apple is the one that's drowning in the river.

Ba dum tshhhh.

Am I doing it right?

then you're fine with what you have. I just can't do what I want to do with a Mac so I've always gone PC.

Switching between programs is a breeze on the Mac,

I dislike program switching in Snow Leopard and before. Has it been changed in the more recent iterations of OSX? The inability to select certain instances from the cmd+tab has always frustrated me. I find Alt+tab to be the quickest task-switching method, and it's been pretty inefficient from Tiger to Snow Leopard.

ETA: An aside: Is there a way to "fill screen with window" in OSX? I've never found it. I hate the way windows size/slide/cannot be locked.

My Mac is from 2008. I think all those you listed are new.

Command + tab = switch between programs

Command + squiggly line above tab = switch between windows of the same program

I'm greased lightning on my Mac. A bit slower on my PC.

So there is no way to go from selecting between two word documents and two excel documents without switching windows/keys twice?
