"It's been way too long," read the invitations Apple sent out this morning for its upcoming media event, and the invitations themselves confirm some rumors we've heard over the last few days. As expected, Apple's next big event will take place at the company's Town Hall auditorium on its Cupertino campus on October 16, and it'll start at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time.

Most commentators currently agree that the event will likely showcase new iPad models that support Touch ID, along with associated refreshes for the iPad Air and the iPad mini. On the desktop front, we'll likely see the introduction of new 27-inch iMac models boasting 5K Retina displays, as well as a rumored refresh for the somewhat neglected Mac Mini.

no this will be

new iPads (possible touch ID, and possibly a lager 12.9 inch iPad, which possibly combines iOS and OSX)
New iMacs (27 inch with retina)
new mac mini (hasn't been updated in a long time)
Newest OSX release (what I'm most excited about, they launched Mavericks on this day last year)

I'm kinda hoping for a new Apple TV with an app store. Doesn't sound like it's going to happen.

Wait, has there been a counter-rumor to the rumor I read earlier today?

don't expect any new announcements at this event. This is more laid back and it is mostly refreshes of old machines.

the only expected new thing is the larger iPad.

only reason I'm excited about this event is because it marks the day I can start using Yosemite, I tried one of the public betas on a virtual machine, it is exciting but was too buggy so I deleted that machine not realizing I couldn't reinstall it on the same account.

Today view is exciting

annotation ability in Mail is exciting

i messages including non iPhone texts is exciting.

Continuity is exciting but I don't use numbers/pages/keynote that much so it really only comes into effect over mail.

I think wifi calling will be available too.

This will also increase the usability of iOS8.

I'm pretty sure a new Apple TV will be announced. When it will ship, I'm not sure. Seems like apple will have a few products launch in Feb/March, I wouldn't be surprised if the Apple TV is added to that list. I'm not sure about an app store just yet though. Maybe in iOS 9 and only for the new hardware.
