Yep, Apple has just received a patent which could regulate your ability to take pictures and video with your iPhone in certain areas like concerts or museums.

And these infrared emitters can do much more than just shut down your phone’s camera function; they can interact with your phone to display information and other details about an object or space to enhance an experience.

Not bad. Tired of getting on snapchat and seeing 2hrs worth of shitty concerts that I chose not to attend for a reason.

Always wonder why people literally try and get every song on snapchat. Also do they look at their phones the whole time while recording or the stage? I'd assume they are dumb and do the former.

That is just dumb.

If they really want to do something useful, make it so that the phones are unusable in a movie theater.

No one? Calm down big fella. Just a pain in the arse to tap through them all. I don't see why people do it to begin with. Seems like the concert would be more fun watching than focusing on recording it on your phone, but what do I know.

Same can be said for football games. It appears people enjoy letting everyone know they are at an event than actually being at the event itself.

Seems like a CYA patent or maybe even a seemed like a good idea at the time patent, but the world has changed so much that I think most entertainment professionals want their events shared on social media. It also is pointless without Google following suit on Android. Although I can see Apple thinking "wouldn't it be great if everyone with an Android phone got it confiscated at the gate but everyone with an iPhone got through security fine?"

I'd rather see this be used to keep people from texting and talking on their phone during movies.

FIFY but in general I'm not a fan of these kind of designed restrictions rather I am old fashioned and believe people should behave responsibly.

Can't wait for cops to wear emitters that prevent phones from recording them.

If you spend hours on snapchat, you deserve all the inconvenience the world can throw at you.

I agree, don't know who spends that much time on snap chat though.

Hopefully it will force people to live in the moment instead of staring at their phones.

Is there a filter that you can put over the camera to block IR signals? If not, there will probably be camera apps that come out that allow you to turn off the IR capture.
