Recently bought a Roku and was wondering if it was worth the $99.

Any other app recommendations are appreciated.

It's worth it because most people aren't buying Prime for Instant Video, they are buying Prime for the shipping savings and IV is almost a bonus.

For instance, I've lived away from my immediate family for 4 of the last 7 years, which means I break even on Prime during Christmas alone. So for me, Prime is worth it, and so is having the slightly different video options from Netflix.

If you're buying Prime just for video, probably not.

Do you know someone with Prime already? Amazon allows sharing of a Prime account. We use my mother-in-law's account. Not sure I'd pay the $99 annually for it, as we really don't use it all that often.

If you purchase a lot of stuff through amazon, absolutely. My wife and I purchase so much stuff for the little one and get it the next day that sometimes it's a lifesaver rather than having to go grocery shopping while the baby is napping.

It's really not that hard to see what movies and music are available, just go to their Prime Benefits page and follow the appropriate links LINK

I think NetFlix and Prime Video are comparable services, although they are different enough to justify both IMO. But one recent feature Prime added that could be a difference maker for you is that you can download many of the movies and TV shows to a mobile device now. So if you're going on a trip you can save some movies/TV shows to your phone or tablet to watch on the plane. If you have kids you can save kids shows for the car ride.

Is Subscribe and Save worth it? Does that require Prime Membership? Can someone explain their experience?

Yep.

I've saved enough on shipping in the past 3 months to pay the membership fee and 2 day shipping is awesome.

Pretty much this. I have it for the shipping. I will say that one advantage of Prime over Netflix that I use quite a bit is the ability to download free videos to an actual device. This allows me to fill my kids' tablets with free movies and shows prior to us going on a road trip where they won't be able to stream in the car without using tons of my data.

Edit: I see that TigerinATL already covered this.

Worth it.

It is comparable to Netflix so on content alone it is worth it.

Your parents spent more renting videos from Blockbuster in one month than the total cost of Prime.

Tack on the free 2 day shipping and of course it is All Win!

One thing I'll add that I didn't see already mentioned is you also get a pretty decent music streaming app and some cloud storage for photos. You also get some advanced access to some of their daily lightning deals. So there's tons of benefits that make it more than worth it, just depends on your personal use.

Also, if you're a student it's half-price.

ETA: Nevermind, someone did mention it. Still, there's tons of content for what you pay.

Don't have it, but I've heard great reviews. Can definitely save you a lot of money and you can choose how often/how much you get of something so you don't accidentally end up with an entire closet's worth of toilet paper because it turns out you didn't poop as much as you budgeted for that month . Plus, it'd be nice to have some of those mundane every-day items always stocked without having to think about it or go to grocery. Don't think you need to be a prime member

As a whole - absolutely. $99 once a year for free 2-day shipping, great movies and shows, and a decent music selection is a fantastic deal, imo. I order a lot of stuff online so it pays for itself, imo.

As a video and audio streaming service alone - I still think so. Netflix is $96 annually for just video streaming, they just break it out to monthly installments. Plus my Google Play subscription is another $8/mo, or $96/yr. If Amazon's music was better I would cancel it and save some money, but Google Play just blows Amazon Music out of the water.

I think so. The prices are usually competitive, especially if you get 5 items per shipment and get 15% off, but it's really the time saved that makes me love it.

Nope.

I subscribe to things like paper towels / tp, detergent, diapers/wipes, snacks, cereal, shampoo, etc. My delivery date is the 17th each month (you can change it any time), and a few days ahead of shipment they send me an email just to remind me in case I need to make changes. It's just a click to skip a particular item that month, or bump one from a future shipment up to this month. Sometimes items are out of stock or go out of production, and they automatically choose a replacement, which they email you about so you can accept or change.

I figure it saves me about one trip to the store per month, or at the very least it reduces the time I spend in a store. It's worth it for me just for that reason, even if I end up paying a bit more for some items.

I may need to look into this. I just bought $60 in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that will last me the next 6 months. I went with the stockpile approach when I guess I could just subscribe.

shite, I have a year's worth of paper towels.
Sometimes I ignore the email that tells me what I'll be getting in a few days.
