Have you ever reffed before? There might not be anything in the written rules but it's definitely there. If refs called things in the box the way they do everywhere else there'd be about 4 penalty kicks a game on average. Perfect example; the foul on ibra to start the second half. Mascherano didn't even come close to getting the ball yet no call

No.. because the game and players would adjust and not commit the fouls.

Then why bother with rules, if they're not to be adhered?

Iniesta game over.

This is stupid. PK is by definition a result of a foul in the box.

I think he was saying it was a foul but shouldn't have been called. I don't really want to get into this now because the game just started again, but just because a foul was committed (although I'm not conceding the point that a I think nothing should have been called in that situation) doesn't mean a penalty is called for.

A penalty and a card for mutual jostling at the top of the box away from the play in a massive match, while maybe a foul occurd, it should not be called because the crime does not fit the punishment.

It's an interpretation of the rules that make for a better, more fair game. Just like in american football, refs should probably call holding or illegal contact on 75% of plays if they adhered to the exact letter of the law. But obviously that would just be absurd

They are just being fanboys.

Everyone who has ever played knows things are called differently in the box in every league and competition

That's the problem with the typical English/American approach to the game. There is ot delineation between contact allowed in the box resulting in a PK, and contact allowed outside of the box resulting in a FK.

I agree that Nesta pulling Pique down was worthy of a foul, and a PK, but it was made necessary because of the pick that occurred just before it. Nesta's foul was the result of Puyol's pick. Puyol's pick should've been called and nullified Nesta's foul. I can just imagine how infuriated I would be if that had happened against Chelsea. I'll drop it though, it doesn't look like it will be the deciding play in the game anyway.

Haha, ironically it's written in the rules that the refs can ignore the rules(playing advantage). Do the same thing here to continue the flow of the game, because calling the foul in that situation results in an unfair advantage and stops the flow of the game, which is why playing advantage exists.

I'm restating though I don;t believe a penalty should have been called because the fouling was completely mutual and was not more egregious for one side or the other.

I disagree with this. Mourinho's Inter was hyper-defensive and counterattacking. Hell Samuel Eto'o was deployed as a second rightback at times for Inter.
