Median Household Income in the US is 71k. Averages are not really a fair representation here when you consider the income disparity in this country. https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/finance/median-household-income#:~:text=The%20national%20median%20household%20income,What%20is%20the%20minimum%2...
I think the general thought is it encourages the highly compensated employees(who presumbly would be the ones making the decisions on the implementaion of the 401k plan), to design the plan in a way that encourages participation from the most employees possible, especially those at lower wage bands....
It'll be taxed as ordinary income for both federal and state. There will be a federal mandatory withholding of 20% but, depending on how much you make this year, what you ultimately pay in taxes will depend on your tax bracket at year end. LA doesn't have mandatory state withholding on withdrawals, s...
I’m a financial analyst, and my undergrad was as a finance major. So here’s my 2 cents if they decide they want to go the analyst route. You can definitely get a solid job pretty much anywhere in the country(especially with work from home being such a major thing) with just a finance degree from any...
My first job 25 years ago was out of college was 44k. I saved money then. I saved money BEFORE then. I saved more money with every raise. Focused on a reasonable housing (3,000 sq/ft for 254k, not quite 20 years ago), paid it off early. Still drive the same basic "class" of vehicles we always...

I can’t speak to nurses, but my girlfriend is an Occupational Therapist at EJ. They’ve had an OT shortage for a year or so. She’s almost always in overtime and she frequently mentions stories about burned out coworkers. On top of that, pay there(and Louisiana in general) is much lower then the natio...

Remote Work - Tax Question

Posted by TigerTalker142 on 9/30/21 at 1:35 pm
My girlfriend is an occupational therapist and is heavily considering signing a travel OT contract for the next few years as the pay is pretty wild right now. My current job switched to remote in March 2020 and apparently it is going to be a permanent change. That being said, most of the office...
I’ve really enjoyed the games I’ve watched so far this season, as far as the leniency of officiating goes. I get Klopp wants the players to be protected, especially after the injuries of the last season, but players have been so soft for years now and the officiating has allowed for a play style tha...
Not a book, but Gary Gensler taught a class 2 years back at the Sloan School on crypto/blockchain. The entire class was uploaded to YouTube by MIT. Watched it during the pandemic while working instead of podcasts for a few weeks. Really interesting. MIT includes all the links to the suggested re...
More well to do than what? Surely not Uptown
Uhhhh. The majority of New Orleans haha? Although it’s obviously not the only part of the city where they have some wealthy folks. ...
Lakeview is honestly your best bet. It’s basically all upper middle class families and the occasional young professional renting. Very safe, at least by NOLA standards. I’ve walked it at night multiple times and have always felt comfortable. Cops always seem to be patrolling as well, I guess because...
company 401k to another Roth IRA. Their benefits sheet says that employees may contribute up to 18,500 per year. Company will match up to 4% of your compensation. In addition, a Roth plan is available that allows after tax contributions. Not sure it that means that the match is available t...
Bought in at the .24 high a week or so back haha. Hoping for a little boost. Think it'll hit a wall at .20 happened last friday....
Isn't the Reddit buzz what made this stock rocket in the first place?
It absolutely benefited as it happened to be getting a lot of traction on wsb at the same time gme got started, even though it was being recommended as a long term hold and not as a short squeeze candidate. O...
Yea my basis was 9, then I bought a lot more at 14 to bring it up to 13.3. I rode it up to 28 and back down since haha. I'm just not looking at it any more. Not planning on selling though. Unfortunate, we got fricked with the rest of the short sell mania when this was never related to that. Just ...

re: 401k or Roth?

I'm assuming you mean they allow for Roth contributions to the 401k? You're income is likely lower now(i.e. your tax rate is lower) at your first job out of school then it will be when you retire. I would suggest making Roth contributions until you move up a couple of tax brackets. ...

Same, a lot of my holds have been on very strong runs last few days/weeks. Hoping it's just some consolidation across the board. ...
Assuming the match amount and the vesting schedule are the same, there aren't too many functional differences. 457b's allow for larger catch-up contributions to be made when you're nearing retirement age and withdrawals from 457b's will not have early withdrawal penalties assessed for cash distrib...
