Reading a couple of interviews with ings and he talks about his desire to make runs behind defenses, stretch the field, and open up space for creative guys behind him.

I don't know if he will be effective doing it - but it's precisely what we need. A guy that not only makes runs for Cou and firm to send the ball to but also opens up space for those guys to get their own shots etc.

I think that is the best part of his game, from the limited amount Ive seen.

Im curious how much game time he will actually get.

Now that we have Can, Benteke, Cou and Firmino back in the fold... I am really curious as to what Rodgers intentions are in regards to formation/1st team personnel..

There are so many ways to go in attack and even more when Studge gets back..

Well it certainly seems that his preferred formation is the diamond. But it looks as if we'll be just as effective in a 4-3-3. Which can seamlessly morph into a 4-5-1. We already know these guys can play a 3-4-3/3-5-1. Our fullbacks are tailor made for a classic 4-4-2 in which Teke could be the battering ram. Really the sky seems to be the limit. I can't think of a formation we'd be weak in.

A 3 headed attacking monster of Origi, Benteke, and Sturridge would be nasty. But then you have Ings, Ibe, Coutinho, and Firmino to factor in. The possibilities really are endless. BR will earn his keep if he can figure out how to juggle all of these options and produce positive results.

No mention of BALO. He's going to breakout this year.

I can feel it!

According to my FIFA team, which is unstoppable, we should be running a 4-3-3

Clyne-Illori-Sakho-Moreno
Can
Firmino Coutinho
Studge-Benteke-Balotelli

Brick. Shithouse.

I read earlier Balo is being shopped to Lazio and Bologna. I just dont know what to expect from him even if he stays. Last year when he and Sturridge were up top together, we got good results, but I dont see that pairing occurring much with the new talent brought in.

I think we play our best football in a 4-4-2 diamond. Hoping to see this:

Migs
Clyne skrtel sakho Moreno
Lucas/Can
Milner hendo
Coutinho
Benteke firmino (slightly withdrawn second striker)

We have plenty of depth so there will be tons of ways to fit the other players in. Only thing I don't like is that it leaves a lot of our attacking mids on the bench, but I truly think they play better in a 4-4-2. With either formation I still think we will have problems conceding goals though.

Two seasons ago we were rock solid in the diamond when Lucas played without Gerrard. It only happened like 5 or 6 times though. If we see that formation this season id expect much better results since the CMs don't have to do Stevie's running for him.

I'm going with my old 1-5-4 from my Football Manager days.

GK - Mignolet
CB - Sakho
CM - Hendo
DM - Can
CM - Coutinho
LM - Milner
RM - Ibe
LWF - Lallana
RWF - Firmino
ST - Ings
ST - Benteke

I think we'll be in the 4-3-3 to start. We might flip to the diamond once Studge comes back.

Too much of our talent is in the wing/attacking midfielder, and I think until Studge gets back, we will need to get as much of that talent on the field at the same time.

I'm thinking something like:
_____________Migs

Clyne Skyrtel Sakho Moreno

__________Lucas

Milner Henderson

Lallana Courtinho

Bentenke

You can then interchange and work in the different outside guys. I'm hoping Firminio doesn't start right off the back but comes in off the bench, etc. Ease the pressure onto him.

Gotta be a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 if he thinks Milner and Hendo can handle a 2 man midfield, or push one out wide, but then that takes a spot away from Coutinho/Firmino/Lallana/Ibe in the 3 behind Benteke

No doubt we have a lot of flexibility this year

Everyone is sleeping on Lallana.

He's going to have a great season I think. Truly a class footballer if they can slot him into a consistent role.

For sure. Dude has Brazilian feet. He's silky smooth. Might pick up his jersey this season actually. Hoping for some of this.

He just wasn't very consistent for us last year. And I think his health was the main issue there. If he can stay healthy, and get the appropriate amount of minutes I think he can be a special player. I know Hendo thinks very highly of him.
