They could start 11 Americans and I would feel the same way. Pullis is a fricking goon.

That's some sound logic if I ever saw it

Why are you assuming some logic is operating here? This is fandom, it doesn't have to make sense. And the truth of the matter is that I'd rather not support Americans if they are playing that type of football. What's so hard to understand about this? This is club football, not international. In terms of allegiance, the two have little to do with one another.

God damn every day you manage to say something stupider than the last.

Stoke is pure trash and I will never understand how anyone could support them. They play a dangerous and disgusting brand of "football" that is impossible to enjoy. I can see how you are trying to break traditional football stereotypes, but you are wayyy off here.

Nah I'm sure Madrid fans love Barcelona because they have a lot of Spanish players on their squad.

Any team with 11 Americans starting should be rooted for by Americans, the logic of "I would root for the individual players but not the team" doesn't make any damn sense if the entire team is made of those individuals.

Lol, yeah because arsenal is real Madrid and stoke is barca, also they both play in a non Spanish league I'm pretty sure

Yes it does if they are playing in a rugby system. I'm happy Edu will get some experience in the EPL, but there is nothing else good about him going to Stoke.

Logic has nothing to do with it. Stoke is dirty and they play negative football. This is club, has nothing to do with the USMNT. I'll cheer wildly for Cameron and Edu for the USMNT and hope they don't get injured while playing for that fricktard Pullis.

The point stands. Liking a rival because of a player that was born on the same land mass as you is brainless.

No. One this is completely unlikely, and two, you shouldn't be obligated to root for a team just because it has players of your nationality, especially now that soccer is truly the world's sport.

Haven't you heard? Blind nationalism is the modus operandi of this board.

I have and that's why I stay out of USMNT threads. It usually just culminates with me defending Chicharito against a horde of angry homos.

So if stoke started the usmnt starting 11 you'd root against them because the red bars were turned at a perpendicular angle to the way you're used to them?

Extravagant edit: my iPhone autocorrects usmnt to jammy..

No. It's the way they play the game.

Yeah, I'm sure our 11 players would suddenly start making much more reckless tackles and lose ball skill

you could start 11 Americans for ManUre and I'd hope them to lose every game and get relegated...

A ridiculous hypothetical. But if Pulis was still the coach, and if they still played a violent and boring style of football, I would despise that team. I wouldn't despise any of the players. I mean, I don't actually have an opinion on Jermaine Pennant, Glenn Whelan, Marc Wilson, or Dean Whitehead. I don't like the system they use, but I just don't care about the players. In the same I don't care about Fulham or Everton, but I hope American players do well. I'm not rooting for Molde in any way even though they have an American playing for them.

I would also despise any MLS team stacked with American internationals who played in the same manner.

Tell me, is the average Portuguese fan obligated to root for Real Madrid, considering their heavy Portuguese influence? I'm fine with that average Portuguese fan rooting for Madrid, but I reject any notion that anyone is obligated to root for any team by virtue of shared nationality.
