Mentally, he may not be ready for Europe, but technically, he can manage.

Yeah people are acting like there aren't any one-footed players in Europe.

It's possible, but considering he was already "old" in terms of prospects standards then, they definitely saw something in him to still offer him a contract.

He was what 20 at the time

He could have spent at least two years playing on their second team which could have done him some good.

I know he's not completely terrible with it, but Robben almost never uses his right foot when I watch him play.

Sure, but few in our pool. Which goes back to my original point, on which I think we agree.

I hope he does

but I'm just being honest

His youth development path was the American way of old and most the time that puts a ceiling on players.

I completely agree. I wasn't aware of all the negative opinions towards him and his future with the US until recently. Actually, it was in the game thread last night where every post it seemed was a dig at him.

I think he will develop more and more, move to Europe, become an automatic starter sooner rather than later, and eventually become a USMNT legend. I'm not being hyperbolic or sarcastic. Just my opinion. I really like his game. I think he has balls.

You have to remember his development was probably stunted a bit when he chose to stay at Stanford. He's nowhere near his prime right now. Very similar path as Dempsey. I see similarities in their games too. Not like for like, but the same kind of intangibles. I am very excited about the future with him and Jozy up front.

Fabregas doesn't really have a left foot that I can remember. Wilshere nor Vela are other examples, albeit extreme.

The two players I remember that are most comfortable with any foot are Cazorla and Nani.

Again, people haven't pointed out to me why this is a bad thing. The MLS is a super physical league that resembles the international game more than more technical leagues, mainly because the international game doesn't have the team cohesion of the top leagues. Morris looks like he will be a super effective international player because of his speed alone. Like a right-footed Beasley.

Very interesting point. A valid one too IMO

I never said he would be a bad player for the USMNT

I also said to say he won't be in the future set up is silly.

Yeah he seems like a very useful option. As long as he doesn't as for the ball to his feet to much and runs vertically, he'll be a massive threat in the international game, especially if we set up in the counter-attacking style.

His pace and physicality is very useful for the style of play teams use in our confederation. Would he be the ideal option vs the world best, no.

But there is always a place for a player like him as long as the teams in our region play the way they do.

Physicality is useful against top teams as well. Morris is probably not as strong as Altidore but Altidore used his physicality to great effect, especially in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 he had that turn against Capdevilla that led to the goal against Spain, and in 2010 he nearly won the game against England by shrugging Jaime Carragher off the ball like Carragher was a baby Titus Bramble.

Morris will be useful against top teams too, if he is employed in the right position, namely one on one versus a smaller or slower defender.

Can't teach speed. I see Morris as very similar to a healthy Charlie Davies. Dude blew past two Jamaicans in the box in the last 10 minutes and dropped the ball off into a dangerous area. If he improves technically, and doesn't lose any speed, he'll be a USMNT regular. Maybe not in the XI every match, but a valuable contributor.

Morris has two legitimate problems. Everyone knows his left foot sucks, but he also can't create his own space in tight areas. The ability to maneuver in tight areas and using your body is the reason Jozy gets called every time for U.S. games that matter.

On the other hand Morris has pace, size, and the instinct to finish. If he learns one or two of the things listed before he will be a legitimate international. If not he will still be OK but streaky.
