re: Bolton: Holden Tore Right ACL

He'll be back before those matches 10 months from now. He probably won't make the 23 but he'll be on the first roster.

re: Bolton: Holden Tore Right ACL
One of the major issues when coming back from a tear like this is muscle strength. You would not believe how fast your muscles atrophy when you're walking around in crutches everywhere. I'm currently dealing with this and it's not fun. Plus, the surgery is way more painful than the tear itself. If anyone can do it I think it's Stu.

Now knowing a bit about ACL surgery, you have to wonder how they will repair his knee this time around. The gold standard is to take the middle 1/3rd of the patellar tendon and use that as the new ACL. If they've already taken that from his right knee they might have to go into his left knee to repair the right.

At the very least he can go back to coaching counterstrike.
Plus, it appears he was a pimp from an early age. I'm sure he'll be alright.

Ehhh...

Not sure about that. He would have to come back and make a to Bolton right away to warrant a call up to the 30 man roster.

Never thought I'd see the day we're posting psychometric properties on the efficacy of a special test on the SB...

It'll be a long recovery, but Stu's got a good attitude. At this point, the worst thing for him is to try and rush things to get back to Brazil, cause bottom line, it would only hurt him and his future IMO. If he wants to look out for his career and best interest, they need to take his rehab slow in getting him back to playing games.

Don't they sometimes use a cadaver?

Yeah, sometimes they do use a cadaver ACL, but there can be issues with rejection. My surgeon said they don't really use those anymore because they found they would look at them a year later and sometimes they would be completely dissolved.

I got the patellar tendon graft. They also have a surgery with the hamstring tendon where they fold it on itself several times to make one thick tendon. That said, met a guy at PT who had had this done and had it rerupture.

What is this? Can you explain it for me? Never heard of this one.

re: Bolton: Holden Tore Right ACL
When I tore my ACL, I had part of my hamstring cut and replace it. Doc said this was what most athletes did because a) you're already cut open so they can cut some of the hamstring using a little video camera and it doesn't really affect anything because your knee is already fugged up. B) you can rehab your knee and hammy almost simultaneously when rehabbing and C) you can build your hamstring back up because it's a muscle.

Granted that was 3 years ago and technology changes daily, but I haven't had any setbacks. I am not back to how I was before, but that's mostly because I'm not as active or working out or running like I was in college.

Someone also explain to me this...Stu's left leg got messed up because of Evans, but he tore his right ACL. I thought de Jong just broke his right leg, did anything tear? Has he torn his right ACL before?

Haha, I'm nowhere near any of those, but I did have surgery on Sept. 17, 2007 and I was playing by mid-January. My surgeon did a great job(patellar transplant), my PT specialized in knee rehab, and I worked my arse off. We decided to push it and I only missed one game my senior season. At the time, I was the quickest that this surgeon/PT duo had cleared an athlete. I was out of condition, but it was high school.

Stu will have far superior medical care than I did. He'll have the potential to be training again in 4-5 months, but of course that doesn't mean he'll be going a full 90 soon. He'll have to regain fitness along with getting back in form. Still, it's not unreasonable to hope that he's back practicing before Christmas.

would take a miracle at this point for Stu to be in the WC 23 IMO. I would actually say about a 2% chance.

This is tough after following his recovery and reading several articles about his patience and dedication only to have this happen shortly after returning.

re: Bolton: Holden Tore Right ACL
I wonder if his surgeon just did a really shitty job.

He had the torn knee thanks to Johnny Evans, which took out his ACL and I'm sure did some other nasty damage.

However, he was supposed to come back that next September (March to September = 6 months), and he did so in playing a reserve match against Aston Villa. Then after the game they found that one of the screws used to reconstruct the ligament came loose and caused a lot more damage. This is what caused the longest delay in his recovery, because I guess it caused so much damage that it kept him out for more than an entire year.

Now the reconstructed ACL has reruptured. If I was Holden I would be seriously pissed at my doctors.
