Birnbaum seems like he could be a decent bridge until Miazga is ready to takeover.
Had some shaky moments but looked good. His ball that started the sequence leading to the goal was awesome and unlocked everything.

Is this our best 11 as of right now? Or what could potentially be our best 11?
I agree with a lot of the lineups posted, but I would also take a healthy Bacon up top. I still believe he is one of the most fundamentally sound and gifted players we have in our pool.

How about Greg Garza at LB allowing Johnson to be LW? Use Pulisic as the first sub until he gets a little older?

Pulisic-------Wood-------Bedoya
----------Nagbe----Jones----------
---------------Bradley----------------
Fabian-Brooks-Cameron-Yedlin
--------------Guzan-----------------
Dempsey was garbage against Ecuador, so I'm taking him out, for now. Knowing full well that if he plays like he GAF, then he is easily one of our top players.

Fabian-Brooks-Cameron-Yedlin

Yea but Bacon hasn't been healthy for almost 18 months, dude is a really good player though. I don't know how well he and Wood would work together.

I don't think you would play them together.

I think our best 23 when healthy
Forwards: Altidore, Dempsey, Bacon, Wood
Midfielders: Pulisic, Bradley, Williams, Jones, Bedoya, Nagbe, Finlay, Zardes
Defenders: Johnson, Brooks, Cameron, Gonzales, Yedlin, Besler, Lichaj, Garza
Keeper: Guzan, Howard, Horvath
Other 7
Morris, Miazga, Birnbaum, Villafana, Lletget, Hamid, Zusi
And Feilharber, well I think Jurgen banished him to hell
Forwards: Altidore, Dempsey, Bacon, Wood
Midfielders: Pulisic, Bradley, Williams, Jones, Bedoya, Nagbe, Finlay, Zardes
Defenders: Johnson, Brooks, Cameron, Gonzales, Yedlin, Besler, Lichaj, Garza
Keeper: Guzan, Howard, Horvath
Other 7

I'd agree with most of that. I'd put Lletget over Zardes, Birnbaum over Besler, and I haven't seen enough of Villafana to have an opinion. I think that would be a really good 23. I'd feel pretty good about that 23 if the WC started tomorrow.

Idk. I feel pretty strongly about most positions. My only question marks at the moment are who should be up front, does Fabian play LB or RW, and who should be in goal?

American soccer now has their top 100 American players. LINK
I know y'all weren't a big fan of Gonzalez, but he's listed at number 10.
Of the people called in, the lowest rated field player is Castillo at 53. Chandler is at 55. Villafana is 38 and Lichaj is 31.

I love the idea of the ASN100, but it's quite heavily biased to MLS players imo. Still, that type of list has to be quite tough to put together.

We need this thread for both the here and now and looking farther out.
Jermaine and Dempsey are both old when 2018 World Cup rolls around. Beckerman can't hold up against that level of competition and is older too by then.
Pulisic will be one of or best players in 2018 and I think Finlay will be someone challenging for a starting spot with his pace. Wood will have the forward spot locked up if he continues improving.
I'm concerned longer term with who plays CDM. We age out our current guys and I think it forces Cameron into a CDM role rather than CB. We have CB options that are or can become suitable.
I personally prefer playing a younger group and have us work to the future. I want the guys to build chemistry now. Maybe I am biased but the World Cup is the only thing that matters to me. Gold Cup and the other competitions are not what will grow soccer fandom in the US - going deep into the knock out rounds is what has the potential to jump soccer up a couple rungs in viewership in a single month in 2018.
Yes, we must qualify for the World Cup. This is number one objective but the reality is if we are struggling to qualify by playing a few guys a year or two early so that they can get experience then we aren't that competitive in he first place.

I think he needs a strike partner, or Juergen needs to find a different place to put him. Against Ecuador, it looked like he was allowed to roam by design with Zardes (mostly) and Zusi responsible for moving into the space that he vacated. We don't have the personnel for that, and I don't think that I want to watch our "lone striker" drop even with the backline to find the ball ever again.

I think in the next year you will see the same influx of young talent we did in 2014
Yedlin, Brooks, Wood, Bacon, Green etc
I expect guy likes Trapp, Lletget, and some younger European guys like Hyndeman and Zelalem to start getting looks

You would have to be stupid to kick Jones to the curb at this point, and I am in no rush to get rid of Dempsey either.

Yeah, but he was talking for the WC in 2018. If we are building an optimal formation, then Jones has to be on the pitch. I think he is one of our top five outfield players at worst.
