What on green earth makes you think Altidore is better than Dempsey?

The fact that Altidore is our best forward and our best at hold up play. And the fact that he's actually a forward.

Haha a chance for me to correctly use the phrase "you're just begging the question"

Ok now you're just saying things like they are fact with nothing behind them. "He's our best because I say he's our best." How exactly?

Finishing? No.
Technical skill? No.
Hold up play? Ok.
Physical? No. I assure you that you don't want to fight with Dempsey in the box. You might get stabbed.
Positioning? Meh.
Speed? Ok.
Touch? No.
Passing? No.

*gotta step away so I'm not ignoring you I just can't respond.*

------------------------Guzan-------------------------
Yedlin----------Cameron-----Brooks-------Fab
---------------Bradley---------Jones------------
Bedoya--------------Nagbe---------Wood
------------------Dempsey-----------------------

I'll wait to see Pulisic go 90 before I put him in there. He's a stud, but he's 17.

The three spots I'm not set on are Fab, Wood, and Dempsey. Fab on the left would be ideal but who plays LB? Wood needs to start, but Dempsey still has the quality to play. He played much better when he began getting midfield service.

Jozy sucks. He has been awful for Toronto this year. He can't score with Giovinco feeding him.

Physical? Yes. Altidore is damn strong.

Touch? Slightly less. I think Altidore's touch is underrated.
Passing? Push. I think Altidore is a very good passer.

Bradley and Jones both want to be an 8 but both of them are athletic enough to still play a big defensive role.

Bradley has been strictly a 6 for TFC this year and has been very good at it.

In terms of who we are bringing to the copa... In the future, though, I'd like to see Cameron get some time at the 6 and see if he can make that his.

Yeah I don't mean to make it seem like I think he can't do it. It actually might be his best position at this point in his career.

Who replaces Cameron at CB?

We have a lot of options at center back. Our problem is building chemistry. We need to pick 2 guys and let them play together every game.

In terms of who we have and who we project to have, it's arguably our deepest group.

Just need to find some stability there.

ETA: What hendo said.

Besler? He has the most experience. I wish he would find someone to play with JAB and let them play a lot together.

I agree. Just curious on who you had in mind.

He's left-footed, not ideal to play him on the right.

I think it's pretty clear that Brooks/Cam is our first-choice pairing, but we really need to find a true 6 because we need that against better competition and Cameron fits that mold.

We'd be in really good shape if Cameron were left footed or if Timmy Chandler had lived up to potential.

Some of the lineups posted look better to me than anything we trotted out in Brazil.

I'm afraid that by time CCV is ready, Cameron will be too old.

Birnbaum seems like he could be a decent bridge until Miazga is ready to takeover. Very interested to see how quickly CCV gets a call-up once he is fully fit.

This was a great read on the 2nd half lineup and some projection about what we could see going forward. I'm just optimistic about what I saw late in the game. Optimism isn't a feeling I've had regarding the USMNT in a while. I like it.

I was hoping we would have this thread. My first thought is to include the players that have to be in the starting lineup. For me, that list at least includes:

Fabian Johnson
Michael Bradley
Jermaine Jones
Deandre Yedlin
Geoff Cameron
John Brooks
Christian Pulisic

I think a 4-2-3-1 is our best bet with our current options. I feel like most positions are fairly locked in.

GK: Howard/Guzan - Either works for me. I would still lean Howard though.
RB: Deandre Yedlin
CB: Brooks and Cameron is my favorite pairing. Cameron would look good in the #6, but Jones and Bradley do well together in the pivot.
LB: Either Fabian or someone like Vilafana.
RW: Alejandro Bedoya - Not a bad option for his ability to track back, but if we want Fab more forward, then we would deploy Fab here.
CDM: Bradley and Jones
CAM: Darlington Nagbe
LW: Pulisic/Dempsey - I think Pulisic is the freaking man, but Dempsey would be served well to come on a sub in this role as he can cut in well from the left flank.
FWD: Altidore/Wood - Not feeling great about either, and I have always been a Jozy defender.

My truly faptastic, unrealistic lineup (replace our best player with Bedoya):

Gonzalez is my preference. He's been playing well for one of the best teams in Mexico. When Jones rides off into the sunset I would like to see Cameron move to the 6 and put Gonzalez next to JAB.
