Ozil and Sanchez weren't needs at the time of their signings. Two world class players were available and we got them. Cech is one as well, but we need another infield world class player to compete on all fronts. Adding better players to an already deep squad is great and I don't care what position we do it in.

I disagree. We needed another goal scoring threat. sanchez. Plus walcott was out. gnabry was hurt, ox is off and on hurt, and wenger just doesnt like poldi. So again who did we have to play on the wing? Ozil sure, but as we see he is wasted on the wing. Cazorla? still much better centrally. No we were in need of a player like sanchez. And with out him, we dont get top 4. especially after Giroud was hurt. he carried this team during the first half of the season.

We absolutely needed sanchez.

I love Sanchez and Ozil. To say that Ozil is wasted on the wing is ridiculous. He is a movement player, constantly in the correct position. From either side and to the middle. He was so great after coming back from the injury against Chelsea.

Before we signed Sanchez all the talk was the need of a goal keeper, CB, DM or a striker. Sanchez isn't any of the four. Signing world class players makes competition for squad places keen and keeps everyone on edge. Signing a player like Vidal would be MASSIVE for our ambitions as a club.

We absolutely need more world class players, I agree. Signing Vidal would give us one of the top three deepest and talented mid-fields in the world.

Even Ozil, what elite number 10 did we have in the squad when we signed him? Cazorla? Debatable, especially as we've seen him struggle to really excel in that role since his first year. Vidal plays a position and role that Ramsey, Wilshere, and Cazorla all currently excel in.

Not that Vidal wouldn't be the best of the bunch, it just never made sense to try and strengthen that area when it's arguably our deepest and most talented position

Vidal is head and shoulders above any of our CMs. When he doesn't lose his mind he might be the best pure CM on the planet. He can do it all. Makes Schneiderlan look pedestrian.

ETA: 90% of matches are won in the midfield. Having three absolutely world class players in Ozil, Sanchez and Vidal makes Arsenal A LOT better.

Feels like we are getting close to being able to include Ramsey in that discussion as well

I have no earthly idea how we are going to lineup this season, especially if we sign someone like Vidal and a striker

I would take Vidal, but then you need to drop some players. With he, Ramsey, cazorla and coquelin, I don't see wilshere getting much time if healthy. Unless you plan to use him as a back up to ozil. That is where I'm coming from. To free up space to buy players at other positions. Still think too many times we played with guys more suited to play centrally. And yes ozil IMO is wasted on the wing because he lacks defensive skills and makes us vulnerable down the left side of our defense.

Now when he floats onto the wing and dove tails with a player like cazorla, I think it works. Not if he was just deployed there the whole match. Which he was at times.

We aren't getting Vidal, so it doesn't matter.

The monkey on the back of financial constraints of The Emirates is over. We need to go hard and short term. Arsene has to win the BPL or the UCL to cement his legacy in the remaining terms of his contract.

Love him already..

That was incredibly candid. I really enjoyed it.

As for Vidal, if we bring him in, what kind of insane formation do we use? I'm assuming he displaces Coq, or is it Santi? If we get him, I have to think Jack would very likely be outbound. Think we could get someone in MLS to pick up Arteta?

Flamini and Tomas are done if we sign Vidal.

Watching rt now, but the Vidal drinking and driving and the butt hole fingering kind of turned me off them. Peru hasn't looked too bad this tourney though.

Damn, you'd think Chile was playing with 10 men and not Peru.

I thought most reliable sources came out and said Arsenal aren't in for Vidal? Ornstein said so as well.

Is Arsenal no longer linked with Carvalho?

We had a scout at his U21 match recently. I think with his youth, he'd be a perfect buy.

The guy who 'broke' the story admitted he made it up.

Looks like Theo is extending his contract, what do you think this means for his role up top and signing a striker?

Yeah, I think Theo will get a lot of run in the center this year. The way he finished the year with a hat trick and the FA Cup goal, he's got to get looks there. He's also the perfect alternative to Giroud, direct and pacy as opposed to big and intricate in the build up. Perfect foils to each other who can play together or separate.
