Same with Florida but it's not as big of a secret. I still think it's better for the economy than state income tax.

There are obviously state-to-state differences in revenue opportunities.
Your observation is based in the premise that GOP strives for lower taxes.
That fact is borne out in examination of red vs blue state tax rates.

Because the GOP, by and large, doesn't care about individual economic freedom any more than Democrats do.

Also, you have to be smart, lucky, and aggressively business-friendly to survive on low revenue in a low pop state, especially when the average American demands more government services than ever before.

Because some people prefer to pay state taxes but get good services.

I pay a high NY State tax.

In return I have state parks all over the place, three public golf courses within 10 minutes drive from my house, police that arrive approximate three to four minute3s after you call, programs for prisoners o they don't return to crime after they get out of jail, opuoid treatment, absolutely terrific schools (though that is to a great extent due to property taxes not state income taxes) and public transportationnn that zips me into and around New York city in less than an hour even though I live 60 miles away. We don't have a situation where cops are moonlighting second and third jobs like they do in New Orleans (don't know from experience of course, it is just what I have read) because they only make a pittance. A NY Cop can make 100,000 after a few years on the job and with some overtime. It is almost impossible to bribe one of them - which is a good thing. I hear that in some states.....not so difficult.

I'll take that any day over a state that is crumbling because it is starved for revenues.

Kansas got rid of corporate taxes and that worked out great for their beloved governor.

Income tax gives the legislators more influence. You can decide what's deductible or exempt to a much greater degree than consumption or property taxes.

I find this very difficult to believe. Since a golf course requires a very large acreage and 3 golf courses would be competing against each other it would be stupid for them to all locate in the same spot.

Take away taxes that are already there and it makes it harder for them to operate essential functions..... And pork projects for their districts. And someone else has already said it... GOP loves to spend just as much as Dems.

I would pay more in property taxes in Texas than I pay in both property tax and income tax in Louisiana. Maybe I would save the difference on car insurance.

How is their sales tax?

They do seem to have some better infrastructure though.

Dirty little secret

Many states with high income taxes also have high property taxes

For example, Illinois property taxes are SUBSTANTIALLY higher than in Texas

Here is another little secret (not really). If you can anticipate making a large capital gain (like selling your company) like a year out and you live in a high income tax state buy a house/home and change your domicile to a no income tax state and you can save big money depending on the capital gains earned. Just a thought.

1. Those courses do not compete. They are under one management.

2. Lowest Fee + Cart = 75. I play semi-private for 30.

3. Tee times must be made 7 days in advance. I just walk on with no tee time.

Bethpage is very nice but it's completely closed in winter and cold as hell in early spring and late fall. It's not worth my state tax dollar.

That's because it is a Democrat state. Not a very good comparison imo. Louisiana apparently has .18% property tax. Texas is at 1.94%. That is bonkers that Louisiana's is so low.
