Commercials are geared toward those most likely to buy the product.

...like this guy who follows his friends' advice:

I figure I need to re-up my PoliBoard cred by posting this. Also, I think it's bullshite.

Men are the dumbasses today, constantly saved by their good fortune of being married to a woman and having her constant supervision.

What happened to a dude being a bad arse in commercials, or at least being suave? The Dos Equis guy is one, and... Who else? fricking Mr. Clean?

Its gender stereo-typing. Think Homer Simpson.

Its nothing that's really new. Society has always stereo-typed men as being incapable of living a decent life without a good woman to keep their home for them.

Another Huggies ad featured a group of dads not changing their babies' diapers while watching an entire game through "double overtime."

Isn't that why they make overnight diapers?

Draper is one of the few assertive, capable men on TV and that is a big reason the show is so popular.

Yet ... a complete alcoholic, unable to remain completely devoted even to the woman he truly loves, terribly haunted by his rotten childhood - who perpetuated a total fraud on a dead man to escape it.

He's probably one of the more complicated characters ever presented on TV. Besides ALF, of course.

There's a heirarchy of foolishness in commercials. If there are people of different races, the following is the order that will go from most responsible to goofball if they are all in the same commercial:
black woman>other minority woman>white woman>black man>other minority man>white man

A white guy is an idiot goofball in almost any commercial where he's not the only person in it.

If there's a guy and a girl, the girl is smart and assertive while the guy is an idiot.

If there's a white guy and a black guy, the white guy will be an idiot and poorly dressed while the black guy will be well spoken, intelligent, assertive, and often times be wearing a suit.

Women have no sense of humor by and large when it comes to being made fun of.

Just drink vodka. All those guys are really cool.

But be careful, you might get so much swagger that you shoot down a civilian jet by accident.

If you want to be stunned even more watch what kids are watching on Nick and Disney.

Almost ever male role has been completely emasculated.

This. The only kid show where the males actually act like badasses is "Phineas and Ferb". In every other show, the male protagonists are very effeminate and only bullies and antagonists show any signs of classic masculinity.

Marketing. Madison Avenue has long made the man out to be the idiot because research has shown that women do something like 90% of buying for the household.

Everyone keeps saying that in this thread but what does that mean? Women are more likely to buy a product if they view a commercial where the sexes are unrealisticly portrayed?

Absolutely. Female targeted media is incredibly unrealistic (have you recently watched a chick flick or listened to the music they like). Women don't give a shite about reality.

PC inequality dogma. NEVER pick on the weak; it's fine to slam the strong.

Forward.
