The Stars and Stripes is the true flag of slavery for it proudly waived during the 224 years that slavery was legal in this country. The Stars and Bars were up only about 4, and was only one of many battle flags during the conflict.

I thought about getting one because I am eligible to join the SCV since I am a direct descendant of one.

And what would you get personally out of such a display? Would it add meaning to your life? Are you so insecure that you must project some outward silliness to the rest of the world?

. I understand some have co-opted the flag to be a sign of hate but that wasn't in any way it's original intent.

Stars and Bars was a different flag than the battle flag:

Look i'm an outlaw and a rebel, and i guess a fricking racist because i hate everybody equally by god. If you have a problem with the stars and bars then just by god don't fly it and hate everybody that does. Thats what makes america so beautiful and so strong. Were all different..... get a grip! ......And oh yea, real rebels fly their flags on the back of the barn

I have one. Am I silly and insecure?

I also collect NAZI coins.

Both are investments.

I dismissed getting one, but with comments like this I'm rethinking it.
It might be fun to troll people like you with one.

I believe the Southern Poverty Law Center calls them a hate group.

Of course, the SPLC probably considers all of us a hate group also

The Southern Poverty Law Center does not consider them a hate group.

Active Neo-Confederate Groups
League of the South
Livin' the Legacy
Pace Confederate Depot
Kingdom Treasure Ministries
Dixie Republic
Mary Noel Kershaw Foundation

The SPLC considers them a Southern Heritage Group. They seemed mainly concerned about their history revisionist side. Particularly to their views on Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Which probably doesn't really surprise anyone on these forums.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think the SPLC is a joke?

It doesn't matter what he gets out of it personally. Why do you even care?

I would hope not. Again why do you care?

I bet you love those "Keep Austin Weird" bumper stickers. Once again, why do you care what his license plate has on it?

I would also double dog dare some of you "sons of confederate veterans" to park a car with that tag on it in parts of Atlanta. Show the world exactly how devoted you are to grandpappy's memory!!!

I have the LA tag, have parked on Canal St right by St Louis Cem. In Shreveport I drive down MLK Dr all the time. Close enough for your dare?

I am pessimistic about any group that talks about stopping 'hate.'

I don't like racist either, but to assume someone is a racist just because he has a Confederate Flag is also intolerant and ignorant

Intolerant? Not necessarily.

Ignorant? How so?

The SPLC is not only a joke, but practices hate and intimidation itself. Also a scam..

Read what Harper's magazine article said, Harper's is usually on the left

This thing is still going?

I honestly do not care what flag you fly, what jokes you tell...frick, I don't even care who you PREFER to associate with. So long as you treat me (and by extension...my race) fairly [ Meaning: If you are a loan officer, approve my loan if my score and financials warrant it, etc], then I see no reason to be concerned with what you fly or who you honor.

The hyper-sensitivity makes for dishonesty. I'd be glad to have you as a friend. But, its not NECESSARY. Be fair and I'll never worry about your favorite past-times or jokes.

JEEBUS!!

Faux outrage is ridiculous and MUCH more worrisome to me than a fricking flag.

Again, I may choose to not be friends based upon some of these things. But, I'll never try to force you to change that which is none of my business.

1.Intolerant yes. To automatically assume the worst possible motive for some one to have the flag without any facts or knowledge of the person

2. Ignorant- There are many other reasons for someone to have the flag besides them being a racist, in fact many others. If you do not know this-that is ignorance. If you do know this and just choose to ignore it..see No 1

What if I'm proud of my southern heritage and my 2 ancestors that fought for the South? Does that make me racist in your eyes?
