You're licking windows on this one, machine. Clean coal technology exists, it's just too expensive with gas prices at what they are. There's a business case for gas, that's why you are seeing sharp increases in its use.

ETA: Grab your wallet when gas prices rise, though.

At least in the short term - coal is dead. Trumpy can do nothing about that.

Hey pal, you just don't understand what getting on the Trump train means.....Taking Back America (at least 50 years).

Although cute, this is false. natural gas was cheap and abundant prior to the advent of fracking. GOM has huge NG deposits.

Grab your wallet when NG prices go up......

THIS^

If not for all the clean air regs, it would be competitive at $3,50 per Dth.

How about we just let the market place decide what to use? And by that I mean NO GOVERNMENTAL assistance for any program. No money for Solyndra. No money for clean coal research.

Let private companies come up with ways to meet the emission requirements (for coal) or a cost effective workable solution (for wind or solar). Then the private company that comes up with the best solution will make the most money.

And pay taxes on that money. The government needs to stop trying to influence technology, because when they do, we the taxpayer usually ends up with a big bag of nothing (see Solyndra)

If a company comes up with a cheap efficient solar technology then great, but until it can beat the price of coal then it wont be a leader in that industry.

I will agree that fracking's direct impact on natural gas has been far less than oil, it has definitely had an effect. Fuel switching decisions were driving NG up before fracking really took off. I remember $30+ spot and $10 futures prices for natural gas in the mid 2000's time frame.

Like a lot of other economics issues, you can't boil this down to just one or two data points.

100% false. We were building LNG terminals to import LNG and are instead exporting LNG, strictly because of fracking.

We were building one import facility (Chenier), the first in 25 years, on a gamble that turned out to be wrong.

True. Fracking turned the tide from "peak oil" into "could last a hundred years."

There are now so many exporting facilities planned and underway, my question is, are they overdoing it?

I don't think there is much question about it. Unless Europe commences a massive number of re-gas facilities ASAP. The Asian markets are well supplied already.

He's right, but that coal's not for us, it's for China and India which are building a new coal power plant virtually every day.

Not really China. China is making a massive move towards Natural Gas and renewables right now.

But let's let the free market sort this out.

The technology is in use now, we're still generating 30% of our electricity capacity with coal, post-Obama regs.

Can't we convert coal to diesel or another liquid fuel? The Germans did it during WW2 surely we can do it better and cheaper now.

where is clean coal technology currently being used? I'd like to see an example with zero CO2 emissions
