I have always said the government should get out of the marriage business. How shallow is it to think some commitment made to a justice of the peace means anything more than a commitment to each other. It is all about money.

You obviously did not finish reading the paragraph. If you think the number of people coming here under my proposal would be anywhere near what it is today you are crazy.
Why anyone would be against a person coming here to work that pays their own way, lives without welfare, has health insurance, has housing and pays taxes is beyond me.

Absolutely. Everyone has their selfish reasons, even *gasp* Trump.
It's just that I always cringe when people call themselves conservative, but go out and support Trump and his ideas, which are not conservative. He's a Mercantilist who is touching the liberal waters. How anyone can root for that is mind boggling.

The only way this works is if we pick and choose based on projected earnings. You cant have poor people pouring into a country with welfare on the books.

That person still has to be processed and vetted (and kept track of once he or she is here).
Your open border scenario is anarchy. It is no nation at all, just a geographic footnote.

On trade, this may be what you are already saying but there is no free trade when country A doesn't have a mountain of regulations and pay their employees peanuts and country B does have a mountain of regulations and must pay their employees a decent wage.
