WTF people?!?! You fricking PAY your ISP already - this can NOT be compared to Google in any fricking way - Google offers services to you for FREE - and pay for the "FREE" with your data - ISP's are already charging you an arm and a fricking leg for their service, drown out any competition so you have no choice, and NOW want to take all of the data they have on you and sell it to the highest bidder

What in the ever loving frick is wrong with you idiots?!
They are corporate sheep. They probably spin this in their minds of it creating jobs or something. Corporations good, individual privacy rights bad.

It's something I create. The history only generated by my browsing and my choices on where to go.

The ISP contributes nothing to this data's creation and only receives it incidentally.
So.. you could browse without the use of the ISP?

This goes to show you that our government is corrupt. Both side look out for each other and continue to frick the American people. They don't even care about using lube at this point.

Let's go over this again. This data is valuable because it reveals the trends and desires of the public. Comcast provides no input on that.

If you could get Americans to generate logs of their thoughts and turn them over to one central place it would be the exact same as this.

Comcast provides nothing to this data, they just happen to have a convenient way to collect it.

I probably will. Doesn't mean I should have to though.
See the incongruency?

Disclaimer: I am not a politician, so I have no clue what could be done to help small ISP startups with initial startup cost, or how to remove the non-compete areas that ISPs own... but there HAS to be a way
Politicians have no clue either. But ensuring providing a service is as unprofitable as possible, won't lead to more choices. Quite the opposite.

please go on, I'm waiting on pins and needles how you know this person has a choice, an anonymous person on the internet

Oh, and I have no choice where I live, it's Charter or nothing... well I mean, my Charter is 100MBps down and 10MBps up and have a "non-compete" clause in my neighborhood for another 10 years - but AT&T did put in 3MBps down and 200KBps up lines 10 years ago, so I guess I "do" have that option

frick off - I'm actually the lucky one, Charter is actually a good company and treats me well, other people are just fricked

No not at all. Tor isn't a competitor. It is a third-party that allows me to have some level of privacy. There is still no choice for me within ISPs.

Search engines? Choice

Webmail? Choice

Web browser? Choice

ISP? No choice

See the incongruity?

If that bothers you, simply change your browser to Tor.

"Simply" use an unencrypted service that has all data not in end to end encryption like SSL in plaintext and easily readable by any exit node randomly used?

Yeah, great solution, and good way to have to constantly deal with hacking attempts.

Also in before ISPs go after Tor just like the U.K. is targeting WhatsApp.

do you pay google $60 - $200 a month?
First off, I hope you aren't paying $200/mo for a personal connection.

Second, if you think the service is not worth the cost, set up your own ISP. Simple as that.

Otherwise, if it bothers you, use Tor.

Ok so you're claiming it can be created without Comcast?

These aren't your thoughts. They are your actions, and use on another person's property. Credit cards sell your useage data ALL THE TIME. Facebook and google use your phones location services to detect when you go to a store so they can serve you ads to that store. They even detect brand logos in the photos you post to sell advertisers on you.

quote:

Comcast provides nothing to this data
Then you should have no problem avoiding them if they don't provide anything.

With all of the monopolistic regulations the telecom industry has pushed through on the local level? Yeah that is realistic.
