MJ has already admitted to being racist against white people when he was younger.

I don't believe this is the same thing as Sterling's situation.

I figured thats what he would do. Take his $2 billion and then burn the league to the ground. You can guarantee that other owners have said/written/emailed way worse that what he said. The tops targets will be Orlando & Brooklyn owners
If I were him I would stay away from the Brooklyn Nets owner. The Russian mob doesn't take kindly to people looking into their business.

The Knicks owner on the other hand... all that Isiah Thomas nonsense.

Point is that if racism is such a definitive thing that can get an owner tossed, it can be easy to show racism by other owners.

Not 100% the same but I doubt that the NBA really wants a lot of attention brought to this if this is the standard they're setting.

I get what you are saying.

I just wouldn't hold what a Michael Jordan said in regards to something that happened when he was 14 to what Sterling said a few months ago.

The tv show would start off like the "Housewives of LA" and end abruptly mid season with an episode like the "Sopranos". Highest rating ever.

But in another thread, others argued that he shouldn't be held accountable like Sterling, bc the NBA didn't lose any money due to Kobes comments.

This is the heart of the matter. Sterling wasn't punished for making racist statements, he was punished because he made statements that were against the interests of the league. The lawyers for the NBA will likely get orders limiting the scope of discovery to prevent some witch hunt for any bad statements anyone ever made.

Anyone expecting sterling's lawyers to depose all the owners and ask them to recall all racist statements they have ever made will be disappointed. Relevancy matters even in discovery

It is relevant to show what the others have said or done, proving he was singled out. This man has the money to take the NBA on and if this gets to a courtroom with discovery and people on the stand, the feces will hit the oscillator.
I dare say everyone has said things in private or in confidence that they would not want made public.
And some of these players and owners have made racist statements and either got a wrist slap or nothing at all.

Orders limiting what a PI digs up?

Why is that? Is it because a lot of players grew up on the "streets" and many of the owners grew up with silver spoons?

Why do we not hold people accountable for their actions regardless of their backgrounds? Why do we condone certain behaviors from some but condemn others?

The crap that Larry Johnson spewed about a segregated all-black league seems to have magically disappeared.

How do you prevent someone from looking into your background and making the findings known?

No, it isn't relevant because Sterling wasn't punished for making racist statements. He was punished because his statements hurt the league. If the tapes had been released and no one gave a shite then there would be no violation of his contract. The only relevant information Sterling could try to get on the other owners is if they had made any statements in the past that threatened the league financially to the same degree his did

No, I only meant during legal discovery, namely depositions. A lot of people seem to think that because of this lawsuit Sterling will be able to force others in the NBA to admit all the times they've made racist statements. He won't be able to do that. It's irrelevant.

But of course he is free to hire PIs whenever he wants, lawsuit or no suit. Might have to face some libel suits if what he makes public isn't exactly true though

What he brings up wouldn't have any affect on the case (I think his only shot is to get to crazy ruling overturned), but ESPN, NAACP, etc will be cumming buckets. The court of public opinion will rule swiftly.
