If it is contingency it is probably 40%.

But I am guessing this was hourly because it was a business case. But don’t cry for them, they did well.

A little off the OP but HOW do we actually know the actual $$ amount of the settlement?

I always thought that settlements in civil cases were to remain undisclosed.

You're generally going to get substantially more in settlement with an attorney. So contingency fees are justified. And if you lose the contingency falls on who? The lawyers who are out a shite ton of time and money.

Now, if you want to talk ridiculousness, that's class action fees. Each plaintiff to receive $35.00 off their next purchase of (name formerly defective product). Class counsel to receive $350,000,000.

Settlements are only confidential if the parties agree to it. In this case, they did not negotiate confidentiality of the amount. My guess is FOX didn't have to make any public admissions beyond today's acceptance of the court's finding they made false statements. In exchange, Dominion gets to tell everyone how much money it got.

Probably hourly, plus a bonus if they won. Christmas bonuses should be big this year.

They could have been on contingency, but given the steep burden of proving actual malice it would have been scary to do so.

Once they got into discovery and saw all of FOX's dirty laundry, they probably wished they were on contingency if they weren't already.

Tell me how fox makes a big donation to Democrats without it, seeming like a donation.

Oh, and it being perfectly legal at the same time

That depends on the contract that was signed between Dominion and their lawyers.

Since Fox is a publicly traded company, I would image Fox would have had to disclose such a large expenditure on their balance sheet.

In FL once you get into the millions the fee percentage graduates down to 10 and then 5% over certain amounts.

It would be categorized. Depending on how, it could be hard to quantify even an estimate.

You’ll obviously see the blip. Just won’t know how much that that and how much was other stuff.

So who pays the money and is it a bigger hit from a PR standpoint (viewership going forward) or the money up front? Rupert could write a check out of his cookie jar account in his kitchen. I am sure they have liability insurance. The BOD surely has substantial D&O insurance as I could see them having some exposure being as this reporting wasn't just one day. We know the dollar amount settlement wise but will we ever see how the settlement is divvied up. Any of you fellers been through one of these before?

It’s possible they had some alternative fee arrangement, but in all likelihood Dominion was paying their lawyers at a (very high) hourly rate.
