But tf, there must be a way out for multigenerational impoverished Americans. There must be a solution better than more of the same, because "more of the same" is not working. Blaming others and seeking deeper dependency is not a solution. Fatherless households is not a solution. Homicide rates at 400% of the national average (suffered in the vast majority at the hands of other Blacks) is not the solution. Locking impoverished communities into terrible schools is not the solution. Northerners' urban habits of gentrification are not the solution.

I'm not blaming "the man" for Black folks problems today, because there's no excuse some of the ills that plague many inner Black communities, but I felt compelled to explain why the Asian to Black comparison is an apples to oranges one.

These folks are so close-minded that they can't see how the circumstances under which you came to this country have a lot to do with your socio-economic status, which explains why African immigrants and their children are also well above that national average in income, college degrees and advanced degrees. The same is also true for South American immigrants. If it was just a Black thing, there would be no difference between the descendants of slaves and African immigrants, but it's not a Black or Asian thing, it's an immigrant thing.

Certainly heritage plays a role in life's outcome. For some it plays a larger role than others.

But go back to the original post, and take race completely out of it.

More Asians graduate HS, more Asians have a two parent family.

These are two choices individuals and families can make which have little to do with race.

Consider this, a HS education is there free for everyone.

Consider that a black woman or a black man can choose to marry, work hard TOGETHER, raise a family, and not cat around, have children with several partners, etc.

A black is no more doomed to failure than a white is guaranteed success.

Take morality and religion completely out of it, but from a pure business since; why would a black woman have four or five children with two or three men? Why would a black man want multiple kids with multiple women?

You would think that is a losing proposition, but think about it. does the govt. foster this kind of behavior and make it seem profitable to these people?

I don't know, but if the goal is to prosper in life ten the Asians seem to have found the ticket, and there should be something to be learned by thinking about the numbers.

yeah, this thread had nothing to do with black people before I showed up. Are you that clueless?

The OP is food for thought and something to think about. It wasn't just about race, its about how people who make good decisions can prosper.

That's the point.

If you believe because of race you have no chance, there are thousands of success stories who prove that indeed you do have a chance. And those that do certain things (get an education, form a strong family unit) have a better chance, and in general have a better outcome than those that make poor decisions.

That is the point.

And yes, I know blacks are discriminated against, and to an lesser extent Asians, American-Indians, etc. but in general any person can help himself.

There may be no excuse (highly debatable IMO), but there are at least reasons.
Until we identify those, we have no ability as a society to redress them.

Where there is no excuse is in continuing counterproductive policies hurting the very people they were long ago intended to help. Carrying on the debate as if social attitudes and solutions are no different now than they were in 1964, serves no good purpose.

They were never enslaved. Nor did they build this country only to not get credit for it.
Completely different. Most immigrants that came here came from wealth and education and strong family structures back home.
They also had their religions intact.

The enslaved did not have that, nor did they repeatedly have elected officials and laws signed into our constitution that referred to them as less than or inferior.

Not even a close comparison

Do you really compare what Asians, Irish and Italians experienced to the systematic state-sanctioned discrimination and oppression that Blacks experienced for centuries? If you want to compare apples to apples, instead of apples to oranges, compare Asians, most of whom have only been here for a generation or two, to African and South American immigrants.

I agree with your point about slaves and other immigrants being obviously a poor comparison, but you go much too far here:

Okay that may be a stretch, but they came with their religion, traditions, and a sense of purposive (upward mobility). African slaves were stripped of their religion, forced into Christianity, raped, lynched, had to cultivate a new culture during and through opression, and really had little to hope for in terms of upward mobility (obviously some bucked that trend.).

Not only that, other immigrants were treated far better, just off what I stated, while blacks still faced oppression.

But can blacks fix their problems today? Yes, they have problems that need to be fixed within, but I think it's unsympathetic, ignorant and unamerican (not you specifically) when people blatantly ignore our American history and act as if half assing civil rights for 25 years was more than enough to get black Americans back on par with the other ethnic groups.

Agree that it's unsympathetic & all that to downplay as a separate and additional hurdle for sure

What would do the trick, IYO?

What is truly neccessary from outside of the AA community in order to see that result attained? Is there anything alone, completely external to the AA community, that can guarantee it?

This reminds me of what Ed rendell said when an Eagles game was cancelled for the snow a few years ago.

quote:

This is part of what’s happened in this country. I think we’ve become wussies. I agree with Will Bunch and I think that in most places in the world, people would have sneered at us. This is football. I played football. I played in the snow. The fans can make judgments themselves. They can decide if they’ll go to the game—or they’ll drive home a little more slowly, or take Broad Street, which was fine last night. That’s up to the fans.

If this was in China, do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? He’s right, the people would have been marching down to the stadium, they would have walked, and they would be doing calculus on the way down.

You can not ignore history. It does play a big role.

But we all agree there are things that can be done to help people (all people).

first thing is to encourage everyone to take education seriously and finish high school.

Second thing is to encourage the traditional family, but this isn't a no no. The system is becoming anti family and geared to taking care of children, single moms, etc. By gearing the system this way you encourage people to have more children, to stay unmarried, etc.

That's what the stats show, education and strong families help bring success and prosperity.

Hate to burst your bubble but many Irish came here to avoid starving to death. Around 70% of this country can trace their heritage (some part) back to Ireland. The Irish were viewed as less valuable than a slave. These are well documented facts and the Irish seem to be doing OK for themselves.

Well, good luck.

In every IQ study I've ever seen blacks, as a group, score 15 points less than whites and are even further behind asians.

Until y'all get your median IQ comparable to whites and asians you won't be an par with either group.
