Booker's Bill

quote:

The bill, proposed by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) on Tuesday, would remove marijuana from the federal scheduling system, which is the basis for its federal criminalization. That isn’t new in the Senate; Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), for one, also put forward a bill that would deschedule marijuana back in 2015. Where Booker’s bill goes further is it actively encourages states to legalize cannabis. Specifically, the bill leverages federal funds to incentivize legalization in states that have enforced laws against marijuana in a way that disproportionately impacts low-income people and people of color — a category that includes virtually every state. (A 2015 report from the Sentencing Project, for one, estimated that black Americans are 3.7 times as likely to be arrested for marijuana possession as their white counterparts, but only 1.3 times as likely to use pot.)

Not a fan of Booker, but I'll say tax the shite out of it and get rid of income tax...

I'll never understand why people argue for legalization of something based on the ability for the Feds to tax it. It should either be legal or illegal regardless of their ability to squeeze money from it.

Hopefully the 2020 election has a ton of candidates fighting to be pro-weed.

Why do Americans want everyone and everything taxed to hell and back? If you grow some corn in your garden do think it should be taxed?

My entire life would be so much better if I could just smoke a little pot.

I don't care how hippie that sounds.

I work 60 hrs a week and have an infant at my house. If on a Saturday night I could smoke a little weed to relax without having to interact with a drug dealer and risk losing my job and family I'd be happier every day.

It's a tactic we often to use to try and get people who either don't care or are on the fence to support legalization

Tax it exactly equivalent to those placed on alcohol. No more and no less.

Comparing corn to weed, come on. Split hairs any...?

Would you rather tax your hard working income...?

That's a great way to prop up the black market.

The "tax the shite out of it" argument is dead. That's what we used to say when legalization was a loser.

one consistent refrain for reluctant supporters of "sin taxes" is something like "if it gets me out of paying regular taxes"

that's a shitty reason, and it never will

(legalize it)

How much taxes do you think you can put on The Dope(tm)? Because you're going to need $3.25T to "get rid" of the income tax.

What will happen is, you'll put taxes on The Dope(tm) and they'll have to spend all that revenue (and more) to subsidize all the folks who will do nothing but sit around getting high all day.

I dont know about your job and your family, but it is pretty easy to buy pot without talking to anyone. #darkmarkets
