But to be honest, the main problem is mainly relegated to a few areas on either side of the river. You're not going to find much homelessness outside of the Right to Dream and some areas just across the river on the east side. You won't find a lot of homeless people in the suburbs or even in many areas of the downtown.

I live in Beaverton, and the problem is non-existent here.

Not on the west side suburbs ...but the east side is full of homeless from the river all the way to Gresham. Anywhere close to the springwater trail or max line is covered up.

Quantity of quality.

There are some seriously fantastic breweries in Portland, and a boatload of great taprooms, too. The best taprooms in Seattle feature a lot of Oregon beers. Places like Chuck's Hop Shop.

Hilsboro has issues

Beaverton, west hills, LO, Tigard, Happy Valley - all ok

Nopo, all of the east side , Gresham, Fairview, Milwaukee, and OC all have tons of issues

Not neighborhoods I spend any time in. I go over to the east side to visit breweries, mainly. There's a problem behind Hair of the Dog, but not so much up near Cascade, The Commons, and Base Camp.

My gut feeling is that the majority of people are growing tired of the homeless. They are realizing that the more they take care of these people, the more they attract more of them. I think Portland is trying to find a solution to get these people off the streets. I think they will probably focus more on the problem downtown near the Pearl District more than out in Gresham, though. But all the stuff they do for these people in the Right to Dream area is just attracting more of them. The people doing it are proud of themselves, but the shop owners and people who spend money downtown want them to stop.

I agree, they are making it too easy. People mean well but they are enabling.

Not every single corner on the east side has homeless, you're right...inner southeast which is a lot nicer than it used to be has pushed them east. But it's gotten really bad once you cross like SE 60th and out to SE 190

The spring water trail used to be nice just to go for long walks, my wife used to run on it. Neither one of us have any interest in going down there anymore.

I don't know how long it's been since you lived in SE but it's gotten so much worse

New Orleans would trade issues in a heartbeat. What major city doesn't have issues? I gladly accept some of the bullshite in PDX to things I've seen myself elsewhere.

Agreed

I'm not going anywhere. I'd miss the NW in a minute if I ever left

Update. The police fired on the crowd with non-lethal weapons, and 25 anarchists were arrested.

For those who say that Portland is too liberal, I can think of a lot of places where the police would have let the rioters destroy...

Well, that's true, so no reason for you to ever go there.

The Portland stupidity is pretty well confined to downtown. I live across the river in Vancouver and I had no idea there was any rioting till I read it here. And for those trying to talk shite about this area, I've lived everywhere in the country at one point or another, and this is by far the best place to be, hipsters and homeless people and all.

My commute got fricked up. I couldn't go across the river because a cop car was parked to block the exit.

I had no fricking clue what happened.

This is misleading as frickydoo!

They are nothing close to anarchists. They don't want "zero" government and the people to rule locally only with no federally established charter/contract with a federal government.

They are idiots with no purpose except what they are told. Their cause is not theirs or organic. It is sheer communist Bolshevik style approach to bring down government and establish a communist order.

Seen this played out across countries the world over since central banking and big money and banks became the thang. They fund every uprising and show no allegiance to any flag except their own.
