Refusing to serve customers you don't agree with is suddenly cool again.

They just make this shite up as they go along.

Remember how it was the height of bigotry for religious objectors to decline to participate in a gay wedding? But now it's brave to decline to sell Melania Trump a dress.
quote:
Friday, fashion designer Sophie Theallet, who has dressed the current first lady Michelle Obama, offered a preemptive refusal to hypothetically dress the next first lady, Melania Trump, should she ask for some of her clothes— presumably not the ones available at The Gap. In her unsolicited letter, Theallet informed the world that a person who did not ask for any of her clothes would not be getting them.
quote:
As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady,” the letter reads. “The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.” “I encourage my fellow designers to do the same,” it goes on. In refusing service to Trump, Theallet appealed to “individual freedom” and the idea of her art as an expression of the company’s “artistic and philosophical ideals.” Her announcement was called “noble,” “patriotic,” and “admirable integrity.”
They just make this shite up as they go along.

Melania never asked for her to work with her

It was always cool, as long as those people were -ists.

Making a custom dress for a celebrity is not the same as selling cakes in a shop that is open to the public.
Why are these concepts so difficult for some people?

I don't think Melania needs any help

Liberals always want to change the rules to fit their own desires.

Refusing service based on well established religious freedom arguments is not the same as refusing service to someone you don't agree with politically.
While we are on the subject of baffling concepts people struggle with.

You're right. The dress is much worse since its based on some loose political hatred instead of a long standing religious belief.

Give me a break.
Both examples cut to one underlying issue. The right to refuse services based on your personal beliefs.
It's either ok or it's not ok. You can't possibly find a middle ground.

She should just roll out in a bikini instead

Because your concept is not universally applicable. You are granting positive rights to thr labor of other people based on what kind of property they own and its proximity to those who want these services. Ridiculous.

quote:To liberals, you are correct. One of the most sacred aspects of humanity (religious belief) is brushed aside as being no more important than an emotional response to a presidential election.

...unless that religious belief is to stop a pipeline, then it's sacred again. More liberal rule-changing to fit political preference.
