Can you explain who these people are who have hijacked the Church of Knox and Calvin?

Northeaster/Upper Midwest Liberals? This is something I've wondered about.

As a graduate, I can assure you the fastest way to lose your faith is to attend seminary.

The big story is them referring to Jesus as a prophet

I think that is the natural conclusion but some on the West coast as well as pockets in the South, such as the Presbytery I once affiliated...north central and west Texas, granted many of the conservative congregations departed which made the way easier for those who remained and support PCUSA...there are some who remain but do not support the position of the denomination

The position on same sex marriage removed Jesus from being pre-imminent...calling Him prophet is now palatable. Next order of business will to codify that Jesus is not the only way to God...they are shredding His Messiahship.

I taught counseling at a seminary as an adjunct professor for awhile. I don't know if most on here will be able to fully appreciate it, but there's a world of truth in what you just said.

Our youngest daughter and son-in-law attended a Baptist university and had to sit both down and tell them their doctrine was usurping their warmth for others in Christ

I understand that there is a more conservative branch, but the fact that the Presbyterian Church was one of the leaders in the break with Rome, and to see this sort of thing is stunning. I know it's been going on for a while, but I am genuinely interested. Or is there a link you could share?

I am Presbyterian, albeit PCA, I just want to clarify a few things,

1. This happened during the summer, not last week.

2. While the PC USA is mainline and fairly liberal, it is the chosen denomination of Donald Trump. Better yet, it chose Donald Trump (predestination humor)

3. The General Assembly took part right after the Orlando attacks. The PC USA is all about unity and diversity and crap (This is what happens when you let women in the pulpit). Anyway, they invited a local Muslim leader to lead the assembly in prayer and he pulled this stunt. The PC USA was not happy about it. They put out a statement that basically said they got fleeced.

I'll rip on the PC USA as much as the next guy, but its simply not true that the PC USA prayed to Allah. A better descriptor would be

Liberal Denomination Invites Muslim to Pray to Show World How Tolerant they Are, it Backfires.

The then PCUS started leaning liberal in the late 50s and 60s. Allowing women to be ordained, supporting abortion, etc. By the early 70s, that had mainefested itself in some super liberal leaders questioning the deity of Christ.

In 1973, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) was formed. The problem is that the PCUS's bylaws stated that the denomination owned the actual church buildings. This caused some churches to stay in the PCUS, some had to pay ridiculous prices for their real estate, and others left beautiful churches from the 19th century empty (all over Georgia and South Carolina).

The break off was pretty ugly, and combined with the Charismatic movements of the late 70s and early 80s, left some once large and rich churches virtually empty. Another break off occurred in the 80s with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church forming. Some of these churches were able to sue and win their buildings. The PCUS merged with the already liberal UPC and changed its name to the PC USA and moved its headquarters from suburban Atlanta to Louisville (ironically the PCA took over their HQ).

After the break offs and the new Presbyterian Alphabet Soup, what was left in the PC USA was super liberal. Over the years they have become the Social Justice Denomination. The Presbyterian Church operated a ton of colleges and seminaries, mostly small liberal arts schools. These became liberal factories.

no they aren't. Most are extremely solid in their theology. PCUSA is the exception. They are as heretical as they come.

This happened months ago. True Presbyterian churches are leaving the PCUSA and joining one of the other denominations.
