If Los Angles Tiger were alive to see this (he was Presbyterian), he'd go ballistic.

quote:

The Presbyterian Church, USA, is raising eyebrows after lifting up prayers to Allah at its General Assembly meeting last week.

“Allah bless us and bless our families and bless our Lord. Lead us on the straight path—the path of all prophets: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.”

These were the words that rang out over the congregation at The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA meeting in Portland, Oregon. Wajidi Said, co-founder of the Muslim Education Trust, led the attendees in the prayer to the Islamic deity—a move arranged by the Ecumenical and Interfaith ministry staff at the assembly.

The prayer was part of the “first order of business” during the meeting’s opening session, a time dedicated to praying for those affected by the Orlando shooting that occurred just weeks before.

“In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful, let us praise the Lord … Peace be upon them and peace be upon Allah,” Said prayed

In a related story, the PCUSA is projected to lose about 80k adherents per year (currently 1.5M) for the next five years.

Great first step. All of the religions and denominations of the world need to come together at a religious congress and admit to each other it has all been bullshite. That's step number two.

Setting the precedent for things to come. And if we don't like it we are "haters". I must be a hater.

If you do believe this, how do you suggest that the universe was created?

Well that's better than the Southern Baptists.

Southern Baptists have over 15M members. They aren't losing 33% of the membership in 5 years.

Well the PCUSA has been pretty much apostate for several years now. This isn't surprising to me.

This is rather strange. Presbyterian always seemed to be higher end white people. This can't go over well with the thithers.

Was a Commissioned Ruling Elder by PCUSA and absolutely adored our local church family. My commission was obtained some ten years ago after examination. I set aside my commission this past April and freely relinquished my full relationship with PCUSA.

Witnessed firsthand the anguish and division resulting from PCUSA's March toward the progressive side of the aisle as well as the absolute joy of others....Was not an easy time to say the least. I tend to believe PCUSA's position on right to life matters began this easing to a more liberal theology. It was compounded by the ordination/commissioning of gay clergy and exploded with its position on same gender marriage and it's position toward the Hebrew State, darn near called it an apartheid State.

The more financially able/robust conservative congregations have departed but the wounds are deep. Fellowship was cast aside for reckless and non-Scriptural theology. Smaller, less financially congregations are trapped and are not growing as PCUSA's social agenda tends to distance many in smaller, more conservative communities.

PCUSA is not a very evangelical, mission oriented denomination and will eventually falter under her own weight.

As for me, fwiw, I attend mass on Saturdays and the local Baptist church on Sundays. Still participate in funerals and will continue to do so when asked but do not officiate functions nor administer the Sacraments.

Now you see why so many Conservatives have converted to Catholicism (Newt Gingrich, Laura Ingraham, etc.).

People are longing for some orthodoxy that transcends the ever-changing whims of society. I admire the RC church's history but can't agree with their theology. Orthodoxy can be found elsewhere.

Can't wait to hear what the ARP Church has to say about this.
