Paddock bought 33 of 47 guns found in his hotel and homes since October 2016, according to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
I don't know how I feel about this. The total number of guns isn't abnormal, as a number of my uncles who are avid hunters have that many and maybe more. And that seems quite understandable, although they built their collection over decades.

Acquiring them so rapidly seems like a red flag in THIS INSTANCE. Although a person who picks up hunting or collecting guns as a hobby, or who finally has enough money to buy the guns, would also have completely understandable reasons for a rapid buildup.

The emotional side in me says, this should raise red flags with authorities to be aware. Then the logical (what exists of it) side of me says that the reason we're discussing this story is because it's a Black Swan Event, so basing any solutions off of the specifics of this event is fruitless because the Black Swan Event is unlikely to happen again.

Edit: I'm no longer torn. We shouldn't base anything on this event.

Logical and legal arguments support this, and only the emotional argument (the worst argument) supports the alternative.

You should cultivate this side more.

I'm as pro second amendment as anyone on this board, but stockpiling 33 guns in under a year should absolutely trigger some sort of interest from the FBI/ATF or at least the gun shop. He had to do that many background checks. If he's just a collector, he should be able to say that when they pay him a visit.

It is odd to stockpile that many weapons...but remember the times.
King Obama was the greatest gun seller in history. If HRC would have gotten elected....there could have been more gun control legislation discussed. So with that information...maybe 33 guns isn't such a stretch.

He had no prior run ins with the law. They pay him a visit, say nice guns and leave?

This, if I was a millionaire I would have bought 33 guns in a year, but I would say the FBI's interest should have been piqued.

I would say the over 200 suspicious transactions reports from the money transfers overseas to a social/political hotbed would be an even larger trigger for FBI interest. But they're too busy hiding in curtains and role playing mafia guido's and avoiding accountability for the last 8 years stuff to be effective at anything except leaking all over.

Well if true, it's awfully coincidental that after you went from an Obama (perceived as Pro-Muslim) follower to a Trump (perceived as Anti-Muslim) follower, Paddock switched sides as well.

In addition, Paddock is apparently a guy who doesn't take photos, and from the one photo we've seen, he didn't exactly come off of as a person who spends much time and money looking prim and proper.

I don't want to point fingers, but maybe after he saw a certain person with a Kardashian-like affinity for selfies and fashion flip to the antit-Muslim side, he knew where his place was on the opposite side of the battle.

If this is what that guy did, hell yeah!

I haven't read a damn thing on this guy in regards to his background, investigation, etc.

I was just responding to the point made.

OK. Add that to the legal side of the argument, so the score is:

Against any changes based on specifics of attack--2 (logical side and legal side)

For any changes based on specifics of attack--1 (emotional side)

I'm not sure any other sides exist, but the against against argument is in the clear lead.

I didn't say they should bust his door down with a ram and chuck some flash bangs. Perhaps they could say "we've been made aware that you've completed an inordinate number of firearm background checks in a relatively short period of time. We were hoping to ask you a few questions about these transactions" ... you know... what police and Feds do all the time when they are alerted to "suspicious" activity. I'm not seeing how that's a violation of the 4th amendment.

So it's an N of 1.

Good trend. Let's see where you take it...

Well you only had to look a little further down in my post, but I'll quote it for you:
