This shite is getting f$%king surreal. Next, we'll be giving them lawyers at the taxpayer's expense.

Ah, the one of your creation that asks/expects nothing of you and provides no moral structure.

If it was good enough for Tim McVeigh and Nadal Hassan, why isn't it o.k. for the frickers in Gitmo.
Either way they need to get the fricking things over with.

Good they deserve a fair trial.
I agree 100% but I think that horse left the barn when they were arrested and detained form months and years without due process. I think it was a mistake to ever treat them like anything other than criminals because our doing so gave them a higher standing to their like minded friends in the ME...treating them like the fricking criminals they are and trying them in the criminal justice system would have sent the world the message that terrorists are nothing more than common criminals and the US Justice system is the shining beacon of light that the entire world should try to emulate. Instead we act like a back water dictatorship and dissapear people for months and years at a time. There is no way to convict these people in a court now, at least not without bastardizing the system even more than it has already been.....

The GITMO prisoners for the most part were captured on the battle fields of Iraq and Afghanistan and have no business being tried in a civilian court by anyone or anywhere other than GITMO.
The people in question are either soldiers are criminals. Our creation of another status...enemy combatant....is merely a ruse that quasi allows us to treat these people however we see fit. There is no excuse for this. This is the one issue that left, right and center should be up in arms about. Instead most of us have accepted this situation because we have been told that these people were terrorists (isn't robbing someone at gunpoint terrifying for the victim?) and as such a higher threat than a common criminal. We have bastardized the single thing that the rest of the world envies about the United States and have proven to the rest of the world that we do not have faith in our criminal justice system because we know that the only way to get a conviction is for the accused to have a state appointed attorney who is so incompetent that he will work for state wages. The rest of the world is saying to themselves.."see...we knew the US justice system was a joke and now they have admitted it is also....". That is far more damaging to this nation than the death of 3500 innocent civillians.....

Not only is it a reflection of weakness, it is reflection of the utter gutless cowardice on the part of many who call themselves Americans which has been so clearly on display since 2001.
Added to this is the hypocracy of many on the right who like to scream about their love of the Constitution and the ideals upon which the country was founded, the hypocracy of many on the left who critized this policy when Bush instituted it but ignore it under Obama, and worst of all, the hypocracy of those who call themselves Christians while supporting the indefinite imprisonment and torture of people who have, at most, committed the "crime" of fighting an invading army. Again we treated German pow's who no-one disputed had killed American soldiers, much better.
They were never put in Guantanamo because they were some how "too dangerous" to be held in the U.S., it was conceived as way of allowing the president to act outside the law, and the very same people who are correctly outraged at Obama for acting outside the law, were the ones who were fine with Bush setting the stage.
Those afraid of bringing them here either for trial or proper imprisonment as pow's would have us beleive that they are some sort of uber criminals from Krypton who need to be cast into the phantom zone because they have superpowers and would kill us all -- Cowards.
fricking A Right!!!!! Thank You!

Im all for bringing the little bad arse terrorists to the US. In fact, I got a plan just for that. Briong em all to La. and put them in the "general" population at Angola. Without a gun, bomb or airplane, those Snidely Whiplash little bastards wouldn't last ONE day. End Problem.
It would be a BAD idea to mix these people in with the gen-pop. They are not exactly pussies so they would hold their own for the most part and would, most likely, be able to sway a BUNCH of the low lifes and anti-social types in gen-pop to their way of thinking. Thats all we need...a bucnh of anti-social citizens being exposed to the mind numbing promises of jihad.....bad, bad, bad idea......I like the sentiment though

By the way, the prison at GTMO is not going anywhere anytime soon.....I seriously think it may eventually be turned into a Leavenworth type military prison for seriously deranged convicted military criminals....the place is simply too permanent to be eliminated.....
You can see how permanent it is on Google earth and even google maps...
