On the day before President Obama left office, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued an edict to phase out the use of traditional fishing tackle on the hundreds of thousands of square miles of public lands under its management.

IF he thought this was such a great idea then why wait till his last hour to sign it. Hopefully, President Trump will take care of it...

He is disguising it by stating "traditional" tackle and gun shot, meaning lead. But in the end, its a strike for his enviromental agenda. There is a huge petition being signed as we speak. It will not stand.

We got cities drinking out of lead pipes but fishing with a lead weight harms the environment?

It's so funny hearing all the pissing on the carpet Obama did on the way out.

Is there any question how much Obama despises America and Americans?

The thought is that its just a start. Start with lead, move to hooks and then no fishing. Thats the fear.

The EPA has shot down numerous bills trying to ban lead in California. Environmentalist are pretty persistent.

It is lead my friend....there are much better, much cheaper alternatives.

I can remember when this was a debate in waterfowling circles...and in the beginning it had some merit...steel shot couldn't kill a duck at point blank range at times....while #5 Lead would knock a Mallard on its arse at 60 yards....which of course lead people to try to do it at 160 yards and merely crippling ducks left and right (not at 160 yards not even with lead...). Now at 30 yards....proper distance for decoying ducks and geese....I kill geese, ducks and cranes with a 20 gauge and steel shot as dead as I ever did with a 12 and lead.....first of all because I let them get within 30 yards...I very seldom ever shoot a duck or goose who doesn't have its landing gear down...I ain't that pissed off with 'em that I shoot at every one of them that flys by like some of you with those 150 yard shotguns...but also because modern steel is so much more efficient that 1980's lead was at killing ducks...to 35 yards with a modified choke even cheap federal steel patterns better than the best lead shells money could buy back in the day. It is also far faster to 30 -35 yards than lead meaning it is entirely possible to shoot in front of ducks which is a might near impossible feat with lead...it is simply a better tool for killing ducks than lead is....

The same is true of fishing tackle...bass fishermen have been using all sorts of metal for weight which also adds all sorts of sound to the presentation of their baits that lead simply doesn't make. And we ain't handling fricking lead all day long everyday....it really is a no brainer...

Does this effect TVA land also? It's federal land so I'm sure they will try to apply it to that too.

At least as far as lead shot goes it was impacting birds of prey and scavengers as well as being injested by waterfowl and retained in their flesh which was then eaten by duck hunters. Lead is a very serious health hazard to humans. Men may choose to drink out of lead pipes knowingly but a fricking duck has no choice in the matter.

I don't know why y'all aren't behind this 100%...almost no lead fishing weight is made in the US....it is almost exclusively an import and as such means jobs are going overseas...Trump is going to put a tariff on it anyway within hours and things like tungsten will be much more affordable and will work better anyway...

What's "LITERALLY" happening is your boy's ENTIRE administrative body of work is getting wiped out of history in the first three fricking days of Trump's Administration.

The ban on lead shot for waterfowl came with similar unfounded fears....and of course none of them came to fruition.

The thing that is going to kill fishing and hunting is not regulation but lack of interest. Hunting especially is losing folks every year. Kids just aren't that interested and their family isn't spending a lot of time hunting and fishing and if they are chances are it is daddy by himself and the thought of dragging a kid along unimaginable. I know people with $150,000 boats who have kids who have only been on the thing for cruising and never for fishing....thats just wrong.

Seriously if you hunt, but much easier, fish, you should get involved with youth groups and take kids fishing and hunting. Get them young enough and they will do it the rest of their lives. And what could be better than having a very liberal excuse for hunting and fishing???? Your boss and your wife will readily agree that taking those under priveldged kids fishing is important when they will frown at the idea of you going alone......
