Does anyone really think we need a new airport terminal in New Orleans??

Yes, it is one of the worst in the country. Especially before they did the cosmetic upgrades a couple of years ago.

You really need to travel to better places if you think MSY and efficiency belong in the same sentence

You guys are talking about efficiency in terms of handling airplanes and traffic.

From a personal efficiency point of view MSY is great. I can get in and out quicker there than just about any airport I know of with the level of flights MSY has.

There is no possible way you can get through ATL or DFW in a shorter time than you can get through MSY.

I fly SWA if they are going where I am going and don't even consider DAL or United. SWA operates very efficiently out of MSY. They are the largest domestic carrier and have a lot of non stops out of MSY.

And why are we talking about the rental cars? I thought this would be my home airport?

To reference travel time from parking to the terminal. How long do you think it would take you to get from your car to the terminal?

There is no way under the sun you can get to your gate at ATL quicker than MSY and you are subject to delays a lot more at ATL than at MSY. Plus the airlines plan for you to have more taxi time.

The reason DAL changed all their scheduled times out of ATL was because of ground time at ATL. They are trying to make their on times look better by scheduling the flight longer. DAL will pull away from the gate knowing there is a 30 min line of airplanes waiting to take off in ATL.

Yeah because KMSY will handle at most 15 planes an hour compared to Atlanta which handles 100 planes or so. sure you sit on the taxi ways longer in ATL but that is normal.

But what ever I think we all agree that we don't need money going to build a new terminal at KMSY.

Yes it is normal but who wants to do it?? that is the point.

Just because ATL is great at handling 900,000 flights a year---very impressive--does not make it more convenient or efficient for a traveler based in Atlanta.

I live about 50 miles from MSY and bet you I can be at the gate and taking off to Dallas quicker than you could if you live a mile from ATL and were traveling out of ATL on the same trip.

I bet you any airline has at least 30 minutes of taxi time built into their scheduled flight our of ATL. I used to live not far from ATL and unless it has draftily changed you better budget 30 minutes to get from the parking lot to the terminal. Then you have TSA, bag drop and travel to the gates.

yes so in your opinion that makes KMSY better than KATL. I think you should judge the efficiency in different ways, but that is just me.

Only if you think we should pump a lot of money into KMSY would we need this discussion. I haven't seen anyone argue this yet so I'm nog going to argue anymore.

I am not arguing just pointing out you guys are talking about something totally different.

We do not need another terminal because local taxpaying people get in and out fine.

I am not interest in investing in a new luggage handling system, for example, that is very efficient in handling luggage but is a quarter a mile further from where I park in a new terminal. I find the handling at MSY adequate for my needs. (SWA does a better job than the other airlines I suspect because they have more employees at MSY than the others.)

I am glad we are in agreement. The original point is Mitch loves Mary for getting pork like an airport upgrade the public could care less about.

Lets compare apples to apples. MSY is not in the same class as ATL or DFW period. MSY is not considered a major airport LINK and compares more to Nashville or Cleveland in passenger traffic. Both of which are leaps and bounds better facilities staffed by more conscientious employees than MSY. Even LAS is much easier to deal with than MSY. Forget Atlanta there is no comparison to make. I would agree that the last thing New Orleans needs is a new airport though, there is not enough traffic to support the current one.

Exactly.

BNA is a much busier airport than MSY.

MSY is just the right size to me. BTR is easy on flyers too but has too few flights. There are very few places in the US you cannot get to from MSY either non stop or one stop.

MSY is a shithole and a dump. You always feel like you're going back in time to the 60s and 70s every time you step in the airport. The bare bones may be working fine but appearances are everything and the outdatec appearance needs to go.

Roads, airports, interstates, levees, etc. we ain't getting any if Cassidy wins for a long time. That pork is going to spent elsewhere.

It will be spent though, just not here.

So, whatever the commercials say, seniority rules, an louisiana won't have it, so get used to what we have. It wIll have to last a while.

MSY IS OLD AND OUTDATED. WE HAVE NEEDED A NEW AIRPORT FOR A LONG TIME. I like the idea that our politicians finally got some federal monies to upgrade some of,our infrastructure.

Enough with the constant bitching. You are ridiculous.

I think the feds should tell Mitch to raise taxes on folks in Lakeshore to build a new terminal.

I wonder how a vote on that tax would turn out?

I guess the billions the feds spent on levees was not enough pork for the ungrateful.

Oh it is very efficient given it's traffic but it is not easier for a passenger to park, get to the gate and return, go to baggage claim and go back to their car.

Left my hotel next to the rental cal center this morning in ATL at 7:40 for 8:15 flight. Been sitting in my seat now for 10 minutes.

Yea. Inefficient.

The biggest problem is that it is not well set up for a TSA screening area but that is because the TSA didn't exist when it was designed.

I have a better, cheaper, solution: eliminate the TSA.
