Missouri Bill Would Warn Parents of Evolution Boogeyman

I'm torn on this issue. On one hand I feel that all students should have the opportunity to learn and enjoy science equally lest some fall behind. On the other, at least this isn't forcing pseudoscience into the classroom, and the only students that are hurt would be those whose parents make that choice for them.
BTW, I know its a HuffPost article, but it was one of the better ones out there.

Yeah, that's a bit over the top.
I just don't understand why the parents can't tell their kids to learn the material enough to regurgitate it back on the test, but that's not what they believe in. Plus, what percentage of the curriculum is evolution? <5%? There are more important things to focus on in school.

Whether it was meant to be snide or not, its a good question. Either group could defend the bill using different philosophies.

Is it though? You'll never convince the more orthodox of Christians, so why not let them opt their children out instead of arguing about not teaching it or worse bringing creation into the science classroom.

I think they should be able to opt out, but be tested on it which at some point they will.
I just can't imagine a parent that would want their kid to be at a disadvantage academically and in the job market. You are basically telling your kids, hey don't be a scientist or engineer. These are some of the most lucrative jobs out there. And you won't get far in those fields these days by being a creationist. You will get laughed out of classes, and will fail core courses.

This is complete bullshite as well. All of biology is not based off the theory of evolution. It's not the very first thing they teach in biology class, but rather a very small portion of the curriculum. This is drama from both sides.

You said you thought it was a totally valid question to ask if it was the tea party or libertarians that are behind this legislation. That's an absurd question and you know it. Those are the obviously the only two groups of people that could sponsor such ridiculous legislation, right?

HS and middle school biology can be taught with or without the details of evolution. The roles of mitochondria and photosynthesis can still be taught. It's not the "evisceration of biology".
FWIW, I agree with your argument that this is a ridiculous piece of legislation.

That isn't zealotry. You trying to make it zealotry doesn't make it so.
The US National Academy of Science says it is the unifying principle in the study of biology. Virtually all scientists who research in life sciences agree. It is generally held to be so.
But I'm not getting into one of your nonsensical, obtuse arguments.
