Am not smart enough to answer but I know what we paid for two of our three and Oh My....we aren't wealthy by any stretch, better off than most, and all I can envision are defaults, much like we had with homes. Higher education is unsustainable at its current and seemingly unchecked, endless appetite

I think more and more students are realizing how much "higher education" isn't much use without REALLY higher education.

Case in point: my buddy graduated with a degree in finance last year. Good GPA. Student government. Did the "right" think he was supposed to.

Can't find a job. He's JUST NOW been given the "opportunity" to interview for a job TOTALLY unrelated to his degree. A job that doesn't require a four year degree.

On top of that, there ate 300k college educated baristas and servers in this country.

Problem is, until guidance counselors guide students away from a college degree being required, this problem won't end.

So many useless degrees for jobs that dont exist it makes my head spin. The fact that it takes kids so fricking long to finish is ridiculous. Too many useless, pointless credits go into programs of study.

Like most issues the higher ed problem is complex... higher ed is not useless and it is not going away... However, there are changes that need to be made and it really needs to start with getting rid of useless degree programs AND realizing that not everyone should go to college...

Now, I know the snowflakes will not like the last part of my statement but the cheapening of the degree has got to stop...

Higher ed turns out many many useless degrees. We've got to stop demonizing the vocational trades, these are the people that build our country and produce goods. For the past 30 years all we've been told is that you have to go to college to succeed. Utter bullshite. College is not for everybody and the world needs welders, carpenters, pipe fitters etc. I'm so sick of the ivory tower of higher ed, and I'm an actual professor.

I don't think his is true of many academic disciplines. The mechanical engineering professor or the Econ professor probably don't give a shite.

But yeah, trash like that Melissa Click woman shouldn't be near a college.

That's mostly in the liberal arts departments. They think they are employed to indoctrinate. STEM is still mostly conservative or we just don't give a shite and realize these kids aren't paying to have our political views forced on them.

Its a stupid mindset that everyone needs or is entitled to a dumbed down and free college education.

Do their customers believe that?

The current model doesn't make sense if that's their mission.

Maybe someone should tell the students, it would be hard to find a college senior not concerned with getting a job after graduation.
