This quick response cability leads us to deploy a force any time we get frustrated with statecraft. We don't need to be involved in these regional conflicts.
Yes, I am an isolationist.

They're an unnecessary layer of bureacracy that don't actually do anything but give senior officers a place to go jerk each other off while they wait for a promition.
When was the last time a combatant command actually fought a war anyway?

Agreed. They are just a place to create GO billets. They are not the capability they are portrayed to be. Granted, I have never served on a COCOM staff.

Totally agree. It gives us a reason to keep forces there all the time too. Because combatant commands dont give a shite about troops tasked to them.

This idea should be explored more.

Well under the idea that Wolf and I have presented many times on this board that the Naval services deal with contengency missions and the army gets called when we have real wars that JCS infighting wouldn't have occured in the first place.

????? CENTCOM led the war in Afghanistan and Iraq until the war in Afghanistan was pawned off to ISAF and MNF-I became a four star command.
With that being said I would like to do away with Combatant Commands, they are too imperial in form, having Generals think that a whole area of their world as their AO is stupid and dangerous.

I've been a fly on the wall. If you ever want to watch field grade officers argue for hours over what color their power point slides should be instead of the actual content on the slides then a COCOM is the place to be.

No it didn't. Some task force was formed to fight the wars. They may have reported to CENTCOM for administrative matters but that's as far is it went. There's no reason those task forces couldn't have reported directly to the pentagon.

Disagree. Their RFFed forces fought the war. CENTCOM just bogged everyone down with bullshite and took huge dumps on the troops.
